Moto G5 launched in India, priced at Rs 11,999: Specifications, features

After an unveiling at MWC 2017, the Moto G5 Plus was launched in India last month. Today, Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched the smaller and less expensive Moto G5. The smartphone is priced at Rs 11,999, and it will be an Amazon India exclusive.

As far as the design is concerned, the Moto G5 doesn’t look anything like last year’s Moto G4. In place of all that plastic is an aluminum body, which is not only sturdy, but also ups the premium factor. Interestingly, the back panel of the Moto G5 is removable, which is not the case with the Moto G5 Plus. Also unlike last year, where only the Plus variant got the fingerprint sensor, this year, the Moto G5 too gets the extra layer of security.

The Moto G5 has been launched, priced at Rs 11,999. Sales for the new smartphone start tonight at 12:00AM on Amazon India, along with a bunch of special launch day offers. For one, Amazon Prime members buying the Moto G5 will be getting Rs 1,000 cashback, which will be added to Pay Balance. HDFC card users will get an additional Rs 1,000 cashback, a free SanDisk Ultra microSD card, and also up to Rs 500 off on exchange of an old smartphone.

Moto G5 specifications, features

As far as specifications are concerned, the Moto G5 flaunts a 5-inch full HD (1080p) IPS LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset paired with 3GB of RAM. The 16GB  internal storage is expandable using a microSD card.

For photography, the smartphone is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF support. Camera modes include quick capture, beautification mode and a pro mode that gives you manual control over different aspects. There’s also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and wide-angle lens for selfie lovers. The Moto G5 is backed by a 2,800mAh battery, which the company says is good enough to last a day with a single charge. The battery also supports 10W rapid charge. As with most Moto smartphones, there’s a nano coating on the outside and inside, which protects the device from an accidental splash of water.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box. Motorola smartphones are known for running on near stock Android OS, and the Moto G5 is no different. Some of the customizations include Moto Display to show notifications, and an option to disable the on-screen buttons. With this mode enabled, you will have to swipe on the home button for navigation or to open the multitasking window. The button, however, is not clickable and is capacitive in nature. It also supports gestures to go to home screen, open multi-task window or long-press to put the phone on standby. Flipkart launches ‘BuyBack guarantee’ for Moto G5 Plus that promises fixed exchange price when upgrading to new smartphones

Flipkart is aiming to fix one of the biggest problems that customers face when they go for an exchange deal for a new smartphone. The e-commerce company has introduced a ‘BuyBack guarantee’ program allowing customers to exchange their phone at a fixed rate when they buy the new smartphone on Flipkart. The program has debuted exclusively with the Moto G5 Plus, which will be launched in India tomorrow. The program aims to resolve the issue of fluctuating exchange prices that keep a lot of customers from upgrading to a new smartphone.

For example, if you want to purchase a new smartphone which is priced at Rs 30,000 in exchange of the Moto G5 Plus whose BuyBack Guarantee price is supposedly Rs 12,001. You would be paying a deducted amount of Rs 17,999.

How this BuyBack Guarantee is different and better than the regular exchange offers is that the price remains the same irrespective of the market fluctuations. The BuyBack guarantee is, however, applicable only for smartphones priced higher than the Moto G5 Plus. Also, one can redeem the BuyBack guarantee amount only between six to eight months from the time of purchasing the Moto G5 Plus. After eight months, one can still exchange the Moto G5 Plus but only through the regular offers and not the BuyBack guarantee.

In addition to this, the Moto G5 Plus being exchanged should be in good working condition with the display intact. The smartphone should be returned in the original box, along with the original charger and original accessories in working condition. The official price of the Moto G5 Plus and Flipkart’s BuyBack guarantee price will be announced tomorrow itself.

With the new scheme, Flipkart may have been aiming to encourage customers for buying a new smartphone or upgrading to a new one at a faster frequency. Though with the influx of a wide range of new affordable smartphones, consumers tend to look to replace their smartphones in roughly 12 months or even lesser in some instances. Right now Flipkart’s eight months deadline looks a short period of time to give consumers a confidence to avail the scheme.
