Asus Zenfone 3 with fingerprint scanner could launch in May 2016

The Zenfone series is a set of mobile phones developed and distributed by giant company Asus.

According to a report published on DigiTimes, the third generation and latest unit of the Zenfone series will arrive in May 2016. It will come with a fingerprint processor, which, if true, will make the Asus Zenfone 3 the first non-high-end device to have such feature.

The first two installments of the Zenfone series have been released late 2014 and early 2015. Instead of the expected January debut, Zenfone 3 will be released in May or even the first week of June. In addition to that, the report also contained a part where it is basically said that there's a huge chance Asus' development team will use the fingerprint technology to expand the list of its device's better qualities.

Digitimes cites Taiwanese supply-chain sources saying that the next generation of the Asus ZenFone will most likely sport fingerprint scanners. The technology is to be developed by Elan Microelectronics, a tech company in Taiwan, and Goodix, a Chinese supplier.

Aside from fingerprint scanners, it is also known that the ZenFone 3 will have a USB Type-C port. Asus chairman Jonney Shih confirmed by saying in an interview with Trusted Reviews, "I think Type C is the way to go, frankly speaking."

In 2015, Asustek reached 20 million in smartphone shipments and the company aims to ship 30 million handsets next year. However, the challenge of fierce competition continues to increase as Chinese OEM players like Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Oppo, Meizu and many more are also slated to release some promising smartphones next year.

The report, published on DigiTimes has also revealed that the giant company is planning to expand its Zenfone mobile series and distribute it to previously unreached markets such as Cambodia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria and Myanmar. Asus, on the other hand, received great success not only in Southeast Asia but their Zenfone devices have also reached Russia and Brazil.

This year Asus unveiled the Zenfone 2 at CES in January, but DigiTimes claims that one will have to wait much longer for the Zenfone 3. In fact the earliest we could see the next-generation Zenfone will be in May or June.

Asus ZenFone 2 Specification and Features :

The Asus ZenFone 2 was released in March 2015 and sports a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. There are two variants of the phone having different chipsets. The 4 GB RAM variant is powered by a Intel Atom Z3580 chipset, and the 2 GB RAM variant is powered by a Intel Atom Z3560 processor.

Asus smartphones to come with AdBlock Plus Pre-installed

While Internet giants, advertisers, and publishers continue their debate over the use of ad blocking tools, smartphone manufacturer Asus has picked its side. The Taiwanese company starting in early 2016 will ship its mobile devices with Adblock Plus in its proprietary browser, with the feature switched on by default.

Were extremely happy to team up with ASUS, the first major hardware manufacturer to integrate ad blocking into their mobile devices. This is another call for innovation in the ad industry a call getting louder by the day, said Till Faida, co-founder of AdBlock Plus.

While this wouldn't shake the media and other concerned industries, as Asus Browser is estimated of being used by around 15 million users compared to Google Chrome which has more than 800 million users on Android and iOS, a smartphone manufacturer partnering with an ad stripping provider could set a significant precedent.

With the release of iOS 9, Apple gave its users an option to block ads on mobile safari. For this, the user needs to download AdBlock Plus Safari extension from the app store.

Reliance Jio to launch 4G services on 27 December

We are happy to share that we will unveil Jio to our colleagues first, on the eve of our founder chairmans Dhirubhai Ambani birth anniversary, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani with his wife Nita Ambani said in an invitation letter to employees.

However, the launch will be restricted to the groups 80,000-odd employees and close partners, who are likely to get up to five connections each, translating to as many as four lakh customers, senior executives of the company said, on condition of anonymity.

The services will be free for the first three months, the idea being to test the network before it goes live across the country. Once the services are launched commercially, employees will get billed. They will, however, have to buy their own devices.

Oscar-winner A R Rahman will ring in Reliance Jios 4G services in Mumbai on December 27 at the soft launch of the firms telephony services. Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani have invited more than 25,000 employees of Reliance Industries and their families for the soft launch on that day at the Reliance corporate office in Navi Mumbai, according to people privy to the development. Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan is expected to be at the event these people said.

The launch event, which starts at 5.30 pm and will be telecast live to 1,000 locations across the country.

RJio has already given subscriptions to its telecom-to-television service on smartphones to more than 17,500 employees ahead of the launch, for them to use the services and give feedback before it rolls out services to the public early next year, these people said. The company will now extend this offer to its other employees, vendors and partners, they said.

Earlier this week, analysts at Bank of America Merill Lynch and Credit Suisse said in separate notes to investors that phone calls and data services on the network were working well.

The network coverage was on par with incumbents we visited shopping malls, office buildings, marketplaces, train stations. Even while travelling at high speed, the signal was good without any drops, analysts at Credit Suisse reiterated after testing the networks. Overall, our take away is that the RJio network is turning out to be as strong a threat to incumbents as we had feared.

Reliance Jio holds the highest amount of liberalized spectrum among telecom operators which can be used for deploying any technology for mobile services. It has a total of 751.1 MHz spectrum across 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands.

According to field trials by brokerage firm Credit Suisse, download speed on 4G network of Reliance Jio during its beta-test phase peaked at 70 Mbps but remained in 15-30Mbps range on most occasions.

Data Pack:

Reliance Jio is expected to price 10 GB 4G data pack at around Rs 600 per month, which is almost 60% cheaper than similar plans from Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India, RTN Asia reported.

India's leading carrier Airtel's 10GB of 4G data is priced at Rs 1,350, while Vodafone charges Rs 1,500 for similar pack.

With the disruptive pricing, Reliance Jio Infocomm's 4G services could pose the biggest threat to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India's market share as their large premium user base could be early adopters of the highspeed broadband services that Mukesh Ambani's company will offer, brokerage CLSA recently said.

HP Star Wars Special Edition 15 Notebook is built for the Star Wars fan; Specs, Price

HP has come out with a Special Edition Notebook to celebrate the release of the upcoming movie. The Star Wars Special Edition Notebook 15-an003tx is a treat for the eyes and must have for the Star Wars fan boys. When it comes to performance it executes decently for a mid-ranged gaming laptop, but lacks in the audio department. Let us find out what sets this laptop aside from its counterparts.Star Wars movie related content such as Star Wars Command Centre, Star Wars Media Library, R2-D2 sound themes, and Marvel Star Wars Comic are preloaded in this Notebook.

HP 15-an003tx Star Wars Price in India : Rs.69,989 And also available on Amazon India, Flipkart & HP Official Online Store India.

HP 15-an003tx Star Wars Special Edition Specification :

Display : 15.6-inch Full HD IPS (1920x1080)
OS : Windows 10
Processor : Intel 6th gen core i5 processor 2.3 GHz, 8GB RAM
Graphics Card : 2GB Nividia 940M
Red Backlit Keyboard
Star Wars themed design images of Darth Vader & Storm Trooper
Star Wars Special Software including Command Centre Media Library, Sound themes & Exclusive Marvel Star Wars Comic
HDD : 1TB SATA

Design:

The Laptop is all about the design. The matt finish vinyl features Darth Vader on the top of the laptop panel and a red Galactic Empire logo. While on the inside, we see a storm trooper silhouetted by the Empire logo in red again. The touchpad is in the design of a targeting panel that we see in a Tie-Fighter.

That aside, the laptop has the USB and the LED light indicators running on the sides along with the HDMI, power, SD card slot, Ethernet port and DVD-ROM. Flip it around and you will find a detachable battery and a small exhaust vent in the corner. The laptop is not outright bulky and has rounded edges. We absolutely loved the well detailed layout that every star wars fan would love to own.

The backlit keyboards sports a red light that brings out its true Sith colours. They keyboard is quite ergonomic and we didn't feel tired after prolonged use.

On the software part, the customized Windows with the Star Wars theme really sets it apart and worth the penny spent. From system sounds to the interface, nit-bits have been modified to give the user a Star Wars-y feel.

Performance:

The most phenomenal aspect of the laptop that we compelled to mention first is its display. It holds true to every word and produces crisp images, and can be viewed from any angle without any distortion whatsoever.

But, the underperformers turned out to be the speakers, which had little bass and the treble shook when playing the higher tones. We had expected more from it in the sound department as the Star Wars movie series is about graphics and super sound.

The battery lasted a good 2.5 hours while playing games that stretched out the capacity of the processor, graphics and the RAM. This is standard when it comes to gaming laptops and on regular light usage, namely watching a couple of movies and working on a bit of Photoshop or Microsoft Office, this easily lasts over 4 hours.

The laptop scored 7,447 on 3D Mark Vantage and 2,531 on PC Mark 7, both of which indicate mediocre performance. Next, we ran Witcher 3 on it to see how this trooper performs. We first ran it in 'Ultra' settings and though everything looked stunning on the full HD 1080p screen, the fps took a serious hit and the game started lagging. Geralt of Rivia (game character) did not look so fancy while taking pauses between each of his steps. So then we ran it on 'High' settings and things seemed fine, and even Geralt breathed a sigh of relief.

Over 1,100 images : Enjoy almost 40 years of Star Wars history with concept art created by Lucasfilm artists before the films were made, a collection of storyboards which were actually used to guide filming, and behind-the-scenes photos, set designs, costumes, models, and more.

Sound schemes and wallpapers : Replace standard notifications with iconic Star Wars sounds including R2-D2 and lightsabers. Choose among Star Wars themed wallpaper collections including black and white stills, ships, Tatooine, and more.

Aurebesh font : Type like youre a citizen of Coruscant. Aurebesh, the Galactic Base Standard language, comes loaded in the font library of the Star Wars Special Edition Notebook.

Bonus features : The first Marvel Star Wars comic in the series, e-book excerpts from the Star Wars Universe and Star Wars movie trailers all come pre-loaded on the Star Wars Special Edition Notebook.

Witness its power : With a Full HD Display, Intel Core processor, red backlit keyboard, and Audio by B&O PLAY, youll revel in its galaxy-spanning power. Be prepared to surrender all of your senses.

Up to 12GB memory : Do more with more memory. Whether gaming, watching high-definition videos, or multi-tasking across applications, the Star Wars Special Edition with up to 12GB memory keeps up with you.

Yu Yutopia Micromax's Yu launches new flagship phone with 4GB RAM at Rs. 24,999 in India

Yu Yutopia is the new flagship smartphone from Micromaxs YU Televentures. Priced at Rs 24,999 this one comes with specifications that are set to pit the Yutopia phone against some of the top-end phones, a fact that YU Televentures didnt shy away from highlighting during the launch.

Now officially announced, the device is up for pre-order via Amazon India, priced at Rs. 24,999 and will start shipping on December 26,2015. Touted as the 'world's most powerful' smartphone, the Yutopia aims to take on OnePlus 2 and others that fall in the same price segment.

Design, Screen:

Theres no doubt that Yutopia has an impressive design. It is sleek (7.2mm in thickness), comes with a metal uni-body and has an overall premium look and feel.

Yutopia has the familiar saturn-ring design camera bang in the centre of phones back, which we also saw in Yuphoria. However, the Yutopia camera unit is much bigger, and does jut out from the rest of the phone. On the right side of the phone, there is the dual-SIM and the micro-SD slot, all combined in one. It looks a bit jarring to see such a big slot for SIMs, expandable memory and one wonders if YU could have divided this into two for a neater look.

The screen is 5.2-inch 2K Display (1440x2560) that offers 565 ppi and by bumping up the specs YU has outdone other competitors like OnePlus, Moto X Style (which costs Rs 31,999 for its 2K screen) whove been challenging the flagship market.

Processor, Camera, Storage:

The phone has a 64-bit Snadragon Qualcomm 810 processor (2 Ghz)coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage space and expand via MicroSD card slot up to 128GB. For those obsessed with the specs, the numbers should be good enough to pique their interest. In the little time we had with the phone, we didnt notice any lag; switching between apps, getting the camera to respond quickly, all functioned smoothly. We were able to multitask between around 20 apps without any hiccups. Games such as Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 were handled well by the smartphone.

The 21-MP rear camera has a Sony Exmor RS IMX230 sensor, true-tone dual-LED flash, a 5P lens, and optical image stabilisation (OIS) and 8 MP on the front snapper with 77.3 degree wield range. The Camera further offers 4K recording and Slow motion Capture. The fingerprint sensor on the back can also be used to take a selfie and this works accurately most of the time. The cameras auto-focus is definitely one of the fastest in its segment.

Battery:

One of the highlights of the device is its bumper 3,000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 that the company claims to offer 75% faster charging as compared to the standard mechanism with the battery charging form 0 to 60 per cent in just 30 minutes.

Sound:

The phone features DTS sound and Yu is offering Little Bird in-ear headphones by House of Marley in the box.

OS:

Yutopia comes with CyanogenMod OS 12 on Android 5.1.1. At the launch, Cyanogen said that it is currently working on OS 13, which is their version of Android 6 aka Android M, and that once it is ready, they will roll it out for Yutopia users. There are several optimisation features, themes, etc available which fans of Cyanogen will love.

Yutopia also comes with its own Around YU services. Around YU is a slew of location based services, integrated within the smartphone where users can shop, book a hotel, flight, bus or a cab, order food, check PNR for trains all from one place. Instead of the Google Now launcher, you can choose to use to the Around YU one.

Around YU will appear when users swipe to the left-side of the homescreen and users wont have to open different apps for each. For YU, this service platform could be the key differentiator for its smartphones, as it puts a variety of services and use cases for a smartphone under one platform.

While the idea is interesting, its too soon to say whether Around Yu will be good enough to convince users to give up their dependence on apps, or even Google Now. Its success will also depend on how YU can expand this platform to include more services.

Apple iPad Air 3 to launch in first half of 2016, won’t support 3D Touch display: Report

The upcoming iPad Air 3, which is rumoured to release in the first half of 2016, will most likely not adopt the 3D Touch feature because of production issues within Apples supply chain.

According to a information obtained by MacRumours, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for accurate Apple predictions, expects Apple to unveil the new device during the event which is to be held in March next year. Apple is also expected to unveil a new 4-inch iPhone along with the Apple Watch 2.

On iPhone 6s, 3D Touch measures the distance between iPhone's flexible cover glass and the sensor array, outputting force and location data for each finger press. Apple's next-generation 3D Touch will work on the same principle and should be transparent to the end user, the source said.

On the hardware front, the iPad Air 3 is likely to sport a 9.7-inch display and it could be powered by Apples A9X chipset, which is also present in the iPad Pro. With an 8-megapixel iSight camera, the iPad Air 3 is expected to be priced at $610 (which is approximately Rs 39,700).
