Seventeen
months ago Chinese tech giant Xiaomi had launched their Flagship Mi4. According
to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun Company takes 12-18 months to develop a brand new
flagship phone.
The photo
shows a person holding a device that resembles the Mi Note with the metal frame
and the Mi logo on the left top corner. But what differentiates the device in
the photo from the Mi Note are the ultra-thin bezels. The teaser also subtly
hints at a possibility that the smartphone will boast Synaptics’ ClearForce technology, which is similar to Apple’s 3D Touch technology.
As per earlier
leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to feature a 5.2-inch QHD display,
Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage, and a combination
of 21-megapixel and 8-megapixel selfie cameras. On the software front, it is
expected to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 7.
It has
been nearly a year and half since Xiaomi launched the Mi 4, which is ancient by
modern standards. But the company is quite bullish about the Mi 5’s prospects, and CEO Lei Jun recently went on record to say that
the smartphone is ‘worth the wait’. The Mi 5 is expected to be unveiled sometime around January or
February, which is when Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset
will be made available for commercial devices.
