HP has
come out with a Special Edition Notebook to celebrate the release of the
upcoming movie. The Star Wars Special Edition Notebook 15-an003tx is a treat
for the eyes and must have for the Star Wars fan boys. When it comes to
performance it executes decently for a mid-ranged gaming laptop, but lacks in
the audio department. Let us find out what sets this laptop aside from its
counterparts. Star Wars
movie related content such as Star Wars Command Centre, Star Wars Media
Library, R2-D2 sound themes, and Marvel Star Wars Comic are preloaded in this Notebook.

Design:
The
Laptop is all about the design. The matt finish vinyl features Darth Vader on
the top of the laptop panel and a red Galactic Empire logo. While on the
inside, we see a storm trooper silhouetted by the Empire logo in red again. The
touchpad is in the design of a targeting panel that we see in a Tie-Fighter.
That
aside, the laptop has the USB and the LED light indicators running on the sides
along with the HDMI, power, SD card slot, Ethernet port and DVD-ROM. Flip it
around and you will find a detachable battery and a small exhaust vent in the
corner. The laptop is not outright bulky and has rounded edges. We absolutely
loved the well detailed layout that every star wars fan would love to own.
The
backlit keyboards sports a red light that brings out its true Sith colours.
They keyboard is quite ergonomic and we didn't feel tired after prolonged use.
On the
software part, the customized Windows with the Star Wars theme really sets it
apart and worth the penny spent. From system sounds to the interface, nit-bits
have been modified to give the user a Star Wars-y feel.
Performance:
The most
phenomenal aspect of the laptop that we compelled to mention first is its
display. It holds true to every word and produces crisp images, and can be
viewed from any angle without any distortion whatsoever.
But, the
underperformers turned out to be the speakers, which had little bass and the
treble shook when playing the higher tones. We had expected more from it in the
sound department as the Star Wars movie series is about graphics and super
sound.
The
battery lasted a good 2.5 hours while playing games that stretched out the
capacity of the processor, graphics and the RAM. This is standard when it comes
to gaming laptops and on regular light usage, namely watching a couple of
movies and working on a bit of Photoshop or Microsoft Office, this easily lasts
over 4 hours.
The
laptop scored 7,447 on 3D Mark Vantage and 2,531 on PC Mark 7, both of which
indicate mediocre performance. Next, we ran Witcher 3 on it to see how this
trooper performs. We first ran it in 'Ultra' settings and though everything
looked stunning on the full HD 1080p screen, the fps took a serious hit and the
game started lagging. Geralt of Rivia (game character) did not look so fancy
while taking pauses between each of his steps. So then we ran it on 'High'
settings and things seemed fine, and even Geralt breathed a sigh of relief.
