Sony has
been struggling to find a place in the crowded smartphone market. The company's
next-generation Xperia Z6, Z6 Mini, Z6 Compact, Z6 Plus, and Z6 Ultra, which
are expected to debut at CES 2016, have made an appearance on AnTuTu, revealing
some of the smartphone series' key specs.
Sony is
looking to expand its presence in the smartphone arena in 2016 and is expected
to officially announce its next-generation Xperia Z6 series at a press event
scheduled for Jan. 5, 2016, during CES 2016 in Las Vegas.
Details
regarding the Sony Xperia Z6 series were posted on AnTuTu's Weibo account. The
post lists five new smartphones that will reportedly make up the Sony Xperia Z6
series. The listing provided what are expected to be the official names for the
devices, display sizes, and what kind of processors will power the handsets.
The
report suggests that the Z6 Mini will be the smallest in the pack with a 4-inch
display. The Z6 Compact will nestle in-between the Z6 Mini and Z6 with a
4.6-inch display. Sony’s flagship Z6 will feature
a 5.2-inch display, and the other new addition Z6 Plus will feature a 5.8-inch
display. Sony will also revive the Ultra series, according to the report,
keeping the huge 6.4-inch display.
An update
to the Z5 Premium was not mentioned in the report, which might suggest Sony
will quit building the 4K smartphone.
According
to the post, the Xperia Z6 Compact, Z6, Z6 Plus, and Z6 Ultra will be powered
by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 820 processor, while the Xperia Z6 Mini will
reportedly feature a Snapdragon 620 CPU.
Antutu
has also revealed that the Xperia Z6 and Z6 Plus could come with some sort of
pressure sensitive display, similar to Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus’ 3D Touch display.
