Flipkart launches ‘BuyBack guarantee’ for Moto G5 Plus that promises fixed exchange price when upgrading to new smartphones

Flipkart is aiming to fix one of the biggest problems that customers face when they go for an exchange deal for a new smartphone. The e-commerce company has introduced a ‘BuyBack guarantee’ program allowing customers to exchange their phone at a fixed rate when they buy the new smartphone on Flipkart. The program has debuted exclusively with the Moto G5 Plus, which will be launched in India tomorrow. The program aims to resolve the issue of fluctuating exchange prices that keep a lot of customers from upgrading to a new smartphone.

For example, if you want to purchase a new smartphone which is priced at Rs 30,000 in exchange of the Moto G5 Plus whose BuyBack Guarantee price is supposedly Rs 12,001. You would be paying a deducted amount of Rs 17,999.

How this BuyBack Guarantee is different and better than the regular exchange offers is that the price remains the same irrespective of the market fluctuations. The BuyBack guarantee is, however, applicable only for smartphones priced higher than the Moto G5 Plus. Also, one can redeem the BuyBack guarantee amount only between six to eight months from the time of purchasing the Moto G5 Plus. After eight months, one can still exchange the Moto G5 Plus but only through the regular offers and not the BuyBack guarantee.

In addition to this, the Moto G5 Plus being exchanged should be in good working condition with the display intact. The smartphone should be returned in the original box, along with the original charger and original accessories in working condition. The official price of the Moto G5 Plus and Flipkart’s BuyBack guarantee price will be announced tomorrow itself.

With the new scheme, Flipkart may have been aiming to encourage customers for buying a new smartphone or upgrading to a new one at a faster frequency. Though with the influx of a wide range of new affordable smartphones, consumers tend to look to replace their smartphones in roughly 12 months or even lesser in some instances. Right now Flipkart’s eight months deadline looks a short period of time to give consumers a confidence to avail the scheme.

Both phones support dual-SIM connectivity.

Additionally, a lot of Motorola’s popular features, including Moto Display and shake gestures, are available on the phones. Both phones will also be getting Google Assistant, a feature that was originally launched only for Google’s Pixel smartphones, but is expected to roll out widely on many phones this year. The phones will be available in fine gold and lunar gray color options, and are a marked departure from the typical Moto G-range look and feel.
