All eyes are set on Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship device, the Mi 6, which is expected to be unveiled on April 16. Even as Xiaomi gears up for the launch, it is now being rumored to launch a new smartphone later this month. The latest rumors claim that Xiaomi will be launching a new Redmi smartphone, dubbed Redmi Pro 2. The smartphone is going to be the successor to the last year’s Redmi Pro, which also happens to be first Xiaomi smartphone to come with a dual-camera setup.
While the Redmi Pro 2 is expected to debut ahead of the Mi 6, the smartphone is likely to skip the dual-camera setup. According to GizmoChina, the Redmi Pro 2 is going to be unveiled by the end of this month. If the report stands true, the Redmi Pro 2 will be the fourth smartphone to be unveiled by Xiaomi in about less than three months.
That said, this is not the first time we have come across details about the Redmi Pro successor. Just recently, an alleged product page of the Redmi Pro 2 had been spotted online, revealing design, specifications and even the price. The Redmi Pro 2 is seen sporting a display slightly larger than 5.5-inches with thin size bezels and a metal body. The smartphone is also rumored to feature a 2.5D curved glass on the front although that is not very visible in the leaked image.
According to rumors, the lower variant of the Redmi Pro 2 will be priced at RMB 1,599 (Rs 15,700 approximately) and the higher variant will be priced at RMB 1,799 (Rs 17,700 approximately).
Redmi Pro 2 Specifications
Coming to the specifications of the Redmi Pro 2, the smartphone is said to come in two variants in terms of storage. The smartphone will be available in 4GB RAM plus 64GB of internal storage and 6GB RAM plus 128GB internal storage variants. At the core of the smartphone, it is expected to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset. There are some reports which suggest a MediaTek Helio P25 chipset instead. For power, the Redmi Pro 2 will possibly use a 4,500mAh battery.
In comparison, the Redmi Pro features a 5.5-inch full HD OLED display. The smartphone is available in three variants with the lowest end featuring 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage and running on a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor. The other two variants have a MediaTek Helio X25 deca-core processor running under its hood, paired with Mali-T880 GPU. These two variants came with 3GB of RAM and 64GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage.
For photography, the Redmi Pro features a dual-camera setup with a pair of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel depth-sensing cameras. Up front, the smartphone houses a 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera. On the software front, the Redmi Pro runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box wrapped under MIUI 8. The smartphone is powered by a 4,050mAh battery along with USB Type-C port for connectivity.
