Late last month, Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that the telecom operator has hit yet another milestone — record 100 million subscribers in just 170 days since starting its commercial operations. To celebrate the success, Ambani also announced a ‘Jio Prime’ membership program, subscribing to which users can continue to avail the benefits offered under the existing ‘Happy New Year” offer. If you’re looking forward to subscribe to Reliance Jio Prime membership, there are three ways to go about it.
The enrollment window is open between March 1 and March 31. To get yourself enrolled, you need to makeone-time payment of Rs 99, which will extend the validity of “Happy New Year’ plan for one year — up to March31 2018. The membership will come into effect starting April 1, 2017. There are a handful of benefits attached toJio Prime membership, which I will talk about it a little later. But before that, let’s take a look at various options to enroll for theJio Prime membership.
How to subscribe for Jio Prime membership
Like I said earlier, there are three ways to subscribe for the membership. You can download the myjio app on your Android or iOS smartphone to make a payment, you can login to Jio.com or you can walk-in any Reliance Digital or Digital Xpress Mini stores and ask the executives to do the refill.
Subscribe to Jio Prime using myjio app
Download the app on your Android or iOS smartphone, open it and enter your login credentials. If you haven’t created any, yet, you can sign-up for the same either on the app or by visiting Jio.com. Now, once logged in, you will see the list of Jio apps ecosystem that you can install (or the ones you already have). Tap on “Open” besides the MyJio where you get to manage your account.
The homescreen shows your current plan with benefits, and at the bottom, you have two links – recharge and check usage. Tap on recharge. Here you can browse plans – first tab has Jio Prime subscription, second has list of combo offers whereas third one has a list of booster plans.

On the Jio Prime option in the first tab, tap on the right corner where price Rs 99 is mentioned. This will take you to the payment gateway where you can choose to pay using credit / debit card, debit card + ATM PIN or via internet banking. Choose your preferred mode, enter required details and once the transaction is complete, you will be subscribed to Jio Prime. (Note – Due to server overload on day-one, I wasn’t able to complete the transaction, but now things seem to have become normal)
To cross check, logout of the app, and login back. On the home screen a dark yellow strip with ‘Prime Member’ will appear, along with the recharge button and usage buttons now turned dark orange. What’s more, when you tap on recharge, the second tab here has changed to ‘Hero’ showing the recharge options available for Prime Members.
Reliance Jio Prime plans and benefits
Reliance Jio Prime plans start at Rs 19 with one-day validity, Rs 149 with 28 days validity and go all the way up to Rs 9,999 with a validity of 360 days. Now, while the lower denomination plans are available, to continue ‘Prime’ membership till March 31, 2018, you’ll need to recharge with at least Rs 149 in every 28 days. Also the ‘Night Unlimited” between 2AM and 5AM is not applicable for Jio Prime membership plans.
The Rs 99 plan offers a validity of one-day with 200MB of data, the Rs 49 plan offers three-day validity with 600MB of data, whereas the Rs 96 plan offers seven-day validity and 7GB of data. However, a daily cap of 1GB high-speed 4G data is applicable on the Rs 96 plan, and once exhausted, the speed will cut down to 128Kbps till midnight.
Next is the Rs 149 plan with 28 days validity and 1GB of data. As mentioned earlier, this is also the minimum recharge you need to do to continue with Jio Prime membership. The Rs 303 plan offers 28 days validity and daily high-speed 4G data limit of 1GB, after which speeds will be throttled. The next is Rs 499 plan, which also offers 28 days validity, but increases the daily data limit to 2GB, after which speeds will be throttled.
Technically, if one consumes the entire 1GB / 2GB of data everyday, they tend to use 28GB / 56GB a month with Rs 303 and Rs 499 plans, respectively. But then again, there are days when you may not use the entire 1GB/2GB data, while others would want to have control of how they use data. The next set of plans are for those customers who don’t want any daily data restrictions.
The Rs 999 plan offers 60 days validity and 60GB of high-speed 4G data, the Rs 1,999 plan offers 90 days validity and 125GB of high-speed data, the Rs 4,999 plan offers 180 days validity and 350GB of data, whereas the Rs 9,999 plan offers 360 days validity and 750GB of data.
The benefit of these plans is that you get the liberty to consume as much as data you want. For instance, if you go for Rs 999 plan with 60GB data and 60 days validity, you can download the entire 60GB in one go (depending on the speed), of use it over a period of 60 days. Same with the other three higher plans too. And after exhausting the given data, you can still continue to use unlimited data, with speeds throttled to 128Kbps.
Besides these plans, Reliance Jio is also offering Booster packs priced at Rs. 51 with 1GB of 4G data; Rs. 91 with 2GB of data; Rs. 201 with 5GB of data, and Rs. 301 with 10GB of data. These plans have no validity, which means they will be valid till the validity of your Jio Prime recharge where you get anywhere between 28 days to 360 days. They can come handy when you have exhausted your pack’s data limit and still have some validity left.
