Super Mario Run coming to Android on March 23rd

When Nintendo announced it was making games for mobile platforms, fans were eager to get their hands on the first release. Nintendo came out with more concrete details on September 7th of last year... at Apple's iPhone 7 announcement event. Predictably, the first game featuring company mascot Mario came to iOS first back in December.

Well the wait is almost over. According to Nintendo's official Twitter account, Super Mario Run will scuttle on to Android devices on Thursday, March 23rd.

On March 23, the iOS version of Super Mario Run will also be updated to version 2.0.0, Nintendo said. That update will add new playable characters to Super Mario Run. And if players complete one of Bowser’s challenges in the free version of the game, they’ll unlock World 1-4. Currently, only the first three levels of Super Mario Run are playable in the free version.

Unlocking the full game costs £9.99 / $9.99, but it's a one-time purchase that nets you all content in the game. Super Mario Run now has a Google Play Store listing. While not immediately available, users can pre-register and be alerted when the game is available to download.
