Nokia made its re-entry into the smartphone market under HMD Global at the recently concluded MWC 2017. The Nokia 3, 5 and 6 smartphones were officially unveiled along with the revamped Nokia 3310. It was initially rumored that the Nokia 8 smartphone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 would be unveiled at the MWC, which evidently didn’t happen. A new report out of China now claims that Nokia will indeed launch a flagship smartphone in June this year. The flagship device is said to run the Snapdragon 835 chipset and all bets are on the Nokia 8.
The said report details out what is expected from Nokia’s upcoming flagship smartphone. Nokia will release its flagship smartphone in two different sizes but with similar specifications, much like what Apple and Samsung follows. Both the smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset as aforementioned, and will come with 4GB and 6GB of RAM. The report further says that the Nokia smartphones will feature a metal unibody design. The Nokia flagships are also expected to come with a dual camera setup with sensors of at least 23-meagpixel resolution.

In addition to all this information, there are pricing details as well. Considering the standard of specifications expected on the Nokia flagships, the smaller model is expected to be priced at CNY 4,000 (Rs 38,400). The higher variant is said to be priced around CNY 4,500 which rounds off to Rs 43,500. Since this information comes as a rumor, it is advisable to take it with a grain of salt. But then again, the launch date timeframe cannot be avoided as it makes sense if the Nokia flagship will indeed be powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset. Samsung has reportedly hoarded the first batch of Qualcomm’s chipsets for its Galaxy S8 which will be released on April 28. This allows other smartphone companies to launch their flagships with Qualcomm’s chipset after the Galaxy S8.

According to rumors, the Nokia 8 smartphone is expected to feature a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED bezel-less display offering QHD resolution. Other than the Snapdragon 835 chipset, there are suggestions of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset as well. In terms of memory, the Nokia 8 is expected to come with storage options of 64GB and 128GB. In the photography department, the Nokia 8 had been so far rumored to sport a 24-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization. Up front, the smartphone could house a 12-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling.
Around the same timeframe of June, HMD Global will also launch the Nokia 5, Nokia 3, Nokia 6 and the Nokia 3310 in India. The aforementioned smartphones will also be manufactured in Foxconn’s Indian facilities as part of the government’s Make in India program.
