Lenovo-backed Motorola has launched the Moto G5 Plus today in India. First showcased at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona alongside the smaller Moto G5, these smartphones are the newest iterations from the popular Moto G series. Priced at Rs 14,999 for the 3GB+16GB model and Rs 16,999 for the 4GB+32GB variant, the Moto G5 Plus is exclusive to Flipkart and is available starting 11:59 PM tonight in color choices of Fine Gold and Lunar Gray. The e-commerce platform has also launched a special BuyBack Guarantee scheme worth Rs 1,199 for the Moto G5 Plus smartphone that will allow customers to exchange the smartphone in future at the guaranteed exchange rate. Additionally, there are a range of launch day offers on the Moto G5 Plus which include up to 10 percent discount on the use of SBI cards, No cost EMI starting Rs. 1889/month and Moto Plus 2 at Rs 599.
This year, Motorola has added a premium touch to the Moto G5 Plus with the use of aluminum framing. The overall design is radically different from last year’s Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, and in terms of premium-ness, it is definitely a step up. The Moto G5 Plus boasts a splash proof metal frame design and houses a physical home button on the front which comes embedded with a fingerprint sensor. The button, however, is not clickable and is capacitive in nature. It also supports gestures to go to home screen, open multi-task window or long-press to put the phone on standby. Although both the Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5 appear identical in terms of appearance, there are major differences in terms of specifications.
Moto G5 Plus specifications and features
As far as specifications are concerned, the Moto G5 Plus features a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display layered with scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC paired with 3GB of RAM + 32GB onboard storage, or 4GB of RAM + 64GB onboard storage. One can further boost the storage via microSD card.
For photography, the Moto G5 Plus houses a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture with dual autofocus pixel and dual-tone LED flash along with a 5-megapixel wide angle selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps.
It is fuelled by a larger 3,000mAh battery with TurboCharging feature which is claimed to offer 6 hours of battery life with 15 minutes of charging. On the software front, the Moto G5 Plus runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box and comes with popular features like Moto Display and shake gestures. It further comes with Google Assistant – the AI-based digital assistant which made its debut alongside the Google Pixel smartphones.
For the Moto G5 Plus, Motorola has also added water repellent nano coating making it splash resistant. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. The smartphone is further Android Pay-ready.
