Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 to launch in 120 markets at the same time in Q2 2017 at ‘affordable price’


HMD Global unveiled Nokia smartphones running stock Android OS this year at Mobile World Congress and since then, Nokia fans have not been at peace. Eagerly waiting for the devices to launch, HMD Global has confirmed the global launch of these Nokia Android smartphones over Twitter.

“We’re aiming to release worldwide in Q2 2017 (April – June) at an affordable price and great quality,” tweeted Nokia on Friday. The company also tipped of a US release of the devices as they look forward to a global reach of their products. “HMD has ambitious plans to release Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in 120 markets at same time in Q2 2017,” said the company in a statement to NPU.

Nokia 6 was officially launched in China this year and was expected to reach global markets around May or June this year. Now, with an official word from the company, the devices might be available from April 2017 in many global markets. Nokia launched mid-ranger Nokia 5 and low-budget Nokia 3 at MWC 2017 on February 26 along with Nokia 6 Black Arte edition and Nokia 3310 feature phone.

Nokia 6 saw an early release in January 2017, however remained limited to China. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It packs a 5.5 inch Full HD display in an aluminum unibody design along with a fingerprint scanner. In terms of optics, Nokia 6 features a 16-megapixel camera on the rear panel, and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. Nokia 6 will retail for approximately Rs 16,999 corresponding to its European pricing at Euro 229.

The Nokia 3 runs on a quad core Mediatek MTK 6737 SoC coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. It is priced at Euro 139 (approximately Rs 9,999) and packs a 5-inch HD IPS display in a polycarbonate build. The device has an 8-megapixel primary and secondary camera.

The mid-range Nokia 5, on the other hand, runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset and sports a 5.2-inch HD (720p) IPS display. The handset has a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card. It has a 13-megapixel camera on the rear, and an 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calling. Nokia 5 will retail at Euro 189, which roughly translates to Rs 13,999.

Also, Nokia extends premium experience to all of the three handsets, irrespective of the prices and these handsets come with 2.5D curved glass on top. Nokia 3, 5 and 6 run on Android Nougat 7.0 and the company promises of fast security and platform updates.
