Motorola Moto Z (2017) allegedly spotted ahead of official launch

While the purported Moto Z (2017) has been leaked earlier as well, it was yet to be seen in public. However, latest reports have spotted the speculated Moto Z making its first appearance. During MWC 2017, a Gamepad Moto Mod image was shown, which was seen sported by an unknown Moto Z device. Unknown because, the Moto introduced Mods with 2016’s Moto Z series, and the device that was seen in the image during the event, did not match up to the Moto Z models in the market. The device carried an oval shaped fingerprint scanner, replacing the box shaped biometric reader currently in use. While this is no solid proof, given the timing, most pins point towards the possibility of that being the Moto Z (2017).

While that was the first hint, according to a new report by Android Central, US-based telecom company Sprint and Motorola recently paired up to show off the carrier’s Gigabit Class LTE service. In a press note, Sprint pointed out that the Motorola phone employed in the demo was a future flagship powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC. An integrated Snapdragon X16 LTE modem is inside, supporting the Gigabit LTE technology. According to Sprint, the carrier used the Motorola phone used in the testing carried four antennas. And of course, to make sure that the design wasn’t detected, the manufacturer put the phone in a case and taped it up really good.

Besides, the Moto Z was recently spotted on a benchmarking website as well, which listed the device as Moto XT1650, and the highlight of the listing was what was under the hood, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. Along with the chipset, the leak revealed that the smartphone could come with 4GB of RAM. The Moto XT1650 would run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

In comparison, last year’s Moto Z was powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The Moto Z also comes with 4GB RAM as seen in its alleged successor. With more development in the future, the Moto Z (2017) could come with 6GB of RAM which is currently becoming the trend with smartphones. The alleged Moto Z (2017) although, shown to come with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, its predecessor already runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

As for the rest of the specifications, the Moto Z features a 5.5-inch Quad HD display. The Moto Z comes with 64GB onboard storage which is further expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card. In the camera department, the Moto Z sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, optical image stabilization (OIS), 4K video recording at 30fps and full HD video recording at 60fps. Up front, the smartphone houses a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling.

For power, the smartphone uses a 2,600mAh battery along with Turbo Charging support which is claimed to offer talktime of up to eight hours with just 15 minutes of charging. The smartphone offers connectivity options such as 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 and USB Type-C support.
