LG has announced that the LG G4
will start receiving the Android Marshmallow 6.0 update, starting next
week. The announcement was made on its official blog, and stated that the G4
will be the world’s first phone to get the Marshmallow update. It will be rolled
out first in Poland, followed by other markets in Europe, Asia, and the
Americas.
Chris Yie,
Vice-president and Head of Marketing Communications, LG Mobile said, “By
working closely with Google, LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4
ahead of any of our competitors. While speed alone isn’t an indicator of great
service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG
is committed to its existing customers first.”
Some of the features
which will be coming to the LG G4 with the Marshmallow update include the ability to control
app permissions before and after installation, and 'Doze' mode to improve
battery life. Reports of LG working on the
Android M update had first emerged earlier this month.
Information about the update was spotted on the support page of LG Korea’s
website. At that time, it showed Android Marshmallow as one of the options
while selecting the Android OS version for LG G4 and G3.
Alongside LG, some other manufacturers have also listed devices which will be receiving the Android M update. HTC’s list includes 12 smartphones, including HTC One M9, One M8, One M9+, One E9+, One ME, One E8, M8 EYE, Butterfly 3, Desire 826, Desire 820, and Desire 816. As for Motorola, the company plans to roll out the update first to Moto Turbo, Droid Turbo, Moto MAXX, Moto X (2nd gen), Moto X Pure Edition (2nd and 3rd gen), Moto X Play, Moto X Style, and Moto G (2nd and 3rd gen).
