Facebook Messenger hits 1 billion monthly active users, 10 facts you should know

Facebook thanked their billion users in a blog post on Wednesday the number of users of its Messenger application had topped one billion, a key milestone as it seeks to expand the platform to new services. The growth in Messenger gives greater reach to Facebook, which is moving to create a "family" of applications beyond the social network.

"As part of this journey to one billion, we focused on creating the best possible experiences in modern day communications," said Facebook vice president David Marcus in a statement.

"We remain focused on helping connect people to the people and businesses who matter most."

Facebook now owns three apps with more than 1 billion users. Starting with Facebook app which is the most popular, with 1.5 billion monthly active users. WhatsApp crossed 1 billion monthly active users in February 2016. Facebook owned Instagram too has over 500 million monthly active users.

To celebrate the same Facebook has a new Easter egg hidden in the Messenger app. All you need to do is send a balloon emoji to any of your friends, and the animation should automatically appear on the screen. However it looks like a temporary feature just like the flower emoji reaction Facebook used during Mother’s Day.
