Google Allo 3.0 Gets Emoji Suggestions, New Chat Themes, and Fantastic Beasts Stickers

Google is making the messaging app Allo even smarter. By adding its Artificial Intelligence-powered text prediction technology to emojis and stickers, Google Allo has introduced a ‘Smart Smiley’ button, which will predict the emojis and stickers you want to use. The new feature will show up as a list of suggested emojis related to what you type. For instance, if you type, let’s go out for a pizza, the Smart Smiley will suggest a pizza emoticon. This is quite similar to the predictive keyboard in Apple’s iOS 10’s iMessage. Presently, Smart Smiley feature is only available in English and will start rolling out for other languages over time. The update is available on both iOS and Android version of the app.

Essentially, the Smart Smileys button is an extension of Google Allo’s prediction algorithm, which so far has been used to offer users suggested one-tap replies to text messages, which are based on the way a user actually chats. In order to enable the Smart Smileys, just type in the Allo keypad, and type on the ‘Smiley with a magnifying glass’ icon right over the keypad. Those “suggestion chips” will also contain emoji and stickers now.

Google further says that “suggestions for stickers and emojis will change based on the words you write and the sentiment of your message. And if you haven’t started typing, Smart Smiley offers suggestions based on your conversation so the perfect sticker.” In simpler words, Google aims to make the predictive emojis in Allo smarter than the likes of iMessage, enabling the app to differentiate between when it should suggest happy or sad emoji based on the tone of a user’s conversation, even if they aren’t using words like sad or upset.

Catching on the Harry Potter craze, after the company integrated some magic tricks on Google Now, it has now introduced stickers from the Warner Bros film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on Allo. The app now also comes with a feature that helps users discover new sticker packs. When a friend sends you a sticker from a pack you don’t have yet, you can tap on that sticker to quickly download the pack. Also, Google Allo has some new background themes added to the chat.
