Vivo is all set to launch two new smartphones in India under its V-series, called V5 and V5 Plus. The launch event is scheduled to take place on November 15 in Mumbai. The company has already sent out media invites for the launch event with tagline ‘selfie evolution.’ While the invite hinted at selfie-focused smartphones, the new leak confirms a 20-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling.
Spotted by PhoneRadar in what appears to be a promotional photo and retail packaging of Vivo V5, we now know the specifications and features of the smartphone. The first photo reveals that both V5 and V5 Plus will sport 20-megapixel selfie cameras. Both smartphones are expected to share similar design sorting a metal unibody design and 2.5D curved glass on top. As we can see in the leaked photo, the physical home button is placed at the front, just below the display. It is also expected to come embedded with a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.
Vivo V5 specifications and features
The leaked packaging confirms some of the specifications and features of the smartphone. The smartphone flaunts a 5.5-inch HD display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. This is one area where Vivo had always gone wrong, and it seems like the company could do the same mistake once again. At the heart of the smartphone runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC (four Cortex A53 cores + four Cortex A72 cores) clocked at 1.8GHz. It is paired with Adreno 510 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The smartphone also comes with 32GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 128GB.
In the photography department, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 20-megapixel selfie snapper with Moonlight flash, which is similar to Retina flash on iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. Armed with a 3,000mAh battery, the smartphone is equipped with connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 4G LTE with VoLTE voice calling support. The smartphone also includes a Hi-Fi audio chip to offer better audio quality, both on speaker and on headphones. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Vivo’s FunTouch OS running on top.
The Vivo V5 Plus, on the other hand, is expected to come with a slightly higher resolution display and bigger battery. Rest of the specifications could be the similar to Vivo V5, but there is no word information regarding the same. The Vivo V5 is expected to carry a price tag around Rs 20,000, whereas the ‘plus’ variant could be priced slightly higher around Rs 25,000 or more.
