Huawei Mate 9 Lite with Dual-rear camera setup, 4GB of RAM, Kirin 655 processor launched: Specification and features

Last week Huawei launched its flagship smartphones, the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design. Alongside these two smartphones, the company later also launched the Mate 9 Pro in China. However, adding to the list is yet another smartphone, called the Mate 9 Lite. The company has quietly listed this smartphone on its official website along with detailed specification and features.

The Mate 9 Lite, as the name suggests is a mid-range smartphone and stripped down version of the Mate 9. The smartphone will be available in three color variants – grey, gold and silver. While the website doesn’t mention anything about the pricing and availability details of the phone, the Mate 9 Lite is said to be the cheapest of the lot.

Huawei Mate 9 Lite specifications and features

The smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch FHD (1080p resolution) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top. At the heart the smartphone is powered by an octa-core (4 x 2.1GHz + 4 x 1.7GHz) Kirin 655 processor. The smartphone is however available in two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB of internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM. In the Mate 9 Lite, the company has again shifted the fingerprint scanner to the back. Huawei had moved the fingerprint sensor from the back of the phone to the front in the Mate 9 Pro.

On the photography front, the smartphone sports a dual rear camera setup without the Leica branding. The camera now comes with a 12 megapixel + 2 megapixel camera. The main 12-megapixel sensor has 1.25nm pixels. The camera comes with dual-core ISP, depth measurement ISP and professional DSP for better image focusing speeds and processing. It also comes with phase detection autofocus that the company claims works in 0.3 seconds. In the front, there’s a secondary 8-megapixel selfie shooter.

Armed with 3,340mAh battery, the smartphone weighs 162 grams and comes with 150.9 x 76.2 x 8.2 mm as the dimension of the phone. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE with VoLTE voice calling support, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box wrapped under Emotion UI 4.1, which is a downgrade because the Mate 9, Mate 9 Porsche Design and Mate 9 Pro run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
