Vivo V5 with 20MP front camera launched in India: Price, specifications and features

Chinese smartphone company Vivo is set to launch its selfie-focused Vivo V5 smartphone in India today. The biggest highlight of the smartphones is pegged to be a 20-megapixel front camera that comes with Moonlight flash support for enhanced low-light photography.

The Vivo V5 is priced at Rs 17,890, and it will be up for pre-orders between November 16 and 25. It is set to go on sale for the first time on November 26. Besides bringing upgraded specifications, the new smartphone is targeted at the selfie-centric crowd.

Vivo V5 specifications and features

The Vivo V5 comes with a 5.5-inch HD (720p) display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is tad disappointing because even smartphones under Rs 10,000 are equipped with full HF panels. It is powered by MediaTek’s 6750 64-bit octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. With 32GB of onboard storage, a microSD card slot is also present.

The talking point of the Vivo V5 is the 20-megapixel selfie camera, making it the first smartphone with such a feature. The selfie camera is accompanied by a Moonlight Glow LED flash, Sony IMX 376 image sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and 5P lens. It also supports Face Beauty 6.0. Just like its predecessor, the Vivo V5 aalso features a metal unibody design along with 2.5D curved glass on top. However, the fingerprint sensor (embedded inside the home button) has now been moved to the front, just below the display. The company says the sensor is fast enough to unlock the device in 0.2 seconds, and also works with moist fingers.

The V5 also comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF) and LED flash. Armed with a 3,000mAh battery, the smartphone features connectivity options such as 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. On the software front, the Vivo V5 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Vivo’s custom Funtouch 2.6 UI running on top. One of the talking points of the UI is what the company calls Smartsplit. This feature lets one use up to two apps side-by-side.
