Samsung patent reveals possible foldable design for the Galaxy X

The age of the flip phone was glorious. With a flick of the wrist you were able to answer the calls. And just when we thought that flip phones were thing of the past, Samsung’s new patent suggests otherwise. We have long known about Samsung’s plan to launch a flip phone. Recently there has been news about Samsung launching its next flagship smartphone which was codenamed Project Valley (Galaxy X), with a foldable display. The Galaxy X was said to be Samsung’s foldable smartphone featuring a 4K display. While it’s been almost a year the leaks have been doing round, some reports confirm that the phone might finally be launched in 2017.

The patent, first spotted by galaxyclub, not only reveals the latest concept of a foldable smartphone by Samsung, but also offers renders of what the phone might look like. Not only that, but the patent, which was filed in South Korea, also says that the device can be “folded or unfolded semi-automatically”. The patent refers to both a “flexible” and “secondary” display. The secondary display is said to activate once the phone is folded. Additionally the document describes how “the primary display is closed by the cover, and in the folded state of the electronic device, the secondary display is opened.”

From what the renders in the patent shows, Samsung’s idea of a flip phone is a bendable section in the middle that will allow the phone to fold like a flip phone.  The flip phone bears close resemblance to a Microsoft Surface Book once folded. The patent also reveals that the phone will come with a physical home button up front and on the right edge there will be a power button and volume rockers.
