The
keynote address of Lenovo Tech World 2016 in San Francisco on Thursday saw the
launch of the much-awaited Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones. As expected,
they were launched with Moto Mods magnetic snap-on back panels with various
partners, including JBL and Incipio. Both smartphones feature support for Moto
Maker customisation. The
InstaShare mod turns your smartphone into a projector, and the device will be
able to project a display up to 70-inches. The last is the Power Pack, which
the company claims can boost the smartphones’ battery life by up to 23
hours.
Motorola Moto Z and Moto Z
Force will be available globally from September, along with the Moto Mods,
which are designed to work with future generations of Moto Z smartphones. In the US, they will be
available as the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid this summer on carrier
partner Verizon Wireless.
Moto Z
specifications and features:
The Moto Z is among the slimmest flagship smartphones
in the world with a thickness of only 5.2mm. As far as specifications are
concerned, the Moto Z flaunts a 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440
pixels) AMOLED display, and is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820
quad-core chipset.
It also
features an Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 32GB and 64GB storage options, microSD
card slot (with support up to 2TB), and a 2,600mAh battery that the company
says is good enough to offer up to 30 hours of usage. The battery also supports
Turbo Charging, that the company says can offer up to eight hours of usage on
only 15 minutes of charging.
On the
photography front, the Moto Z is equipped with 13-megapixel rear camera with
optical image stabilization (OIS), f/1.8 aperture, laser auto-focus, 1.12um
pixel, dual CCT LED flash, and 4K video recording capabilities. Up front, there
is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.4um big pixel, LED flash,
and a wide angle lens.
The Moto
Z also boasts a fingerprint scanner, water-repellent nano coating, and
connectivity options like 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and
NFC. Another thing to note is the absence of a 3.5mm audio jack and instead
there is an USB Type-C port for audio, charging and data transfer. On the software
front, it runs on Marshmallow 6.0.1 out-of-the-box.
Moto Z
Force specifications and features:
The Moto Z Force shares many of the
specifications and features with the Moto Z. But as the name suggests, its
talking point is Motorola’s Shattershield technology. The successor to the Moto X Force with
this technology essentially boasts a display which is nearly indestructible.
