Lenovo has sold half a million Vibe K4 Notes Units in India Since January
Lenovo K4 Note

Lenovo on Thursday announced that it sold 500,000 units of the Vibe K4 Note smartphone that went on sale in India on January. Apart from the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note, the company also revealed that it sold 100,000 units of the Ant virtual reality (VR) headsets that were also individually available via Amazon priced at Rs. 1,299.

The number of Vibe K4 Note units sold is interesting considering that the company in February said that it had sold 180,000 units of the smartphone since launch in January. This means that the company sold more than 300,000 units of the Vibe K4 Note in less than three months. At launch in January, the Vibe K4 Note bundle with Ant VR virtual reality headset was priced at Rs. 13,299. Lenovo back in February made the Vibe K4 Note available in general sale, i.e., without registrations.

The company to mark the milestone is bringing back the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note and Ant VR headset bundle which will be available at Rs. 12,499. As before, the Vibe K4 Note and Ant VR headset will go on sale via Amazon. Lenovo confirmed that the Vibe K4 Note and Ant VR headset bundle will be available starting Friday.

The biggest highlight of the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note is it comes with a feature called TheaterMax which can convert regular content to its immersive VR counterpart. Powered by Lenovo Virtual Reality (VR) technology, the idea is to give users a virtually large screen cinematic experience.

Under the Rs 15,000 price range, Lenovo’s K4 Note is among the most competitive smartphones available today, and our first impressions were largely positive. Lenovo has also managed to achieve this milestone among stiff competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the LeEco Le 1s among others.

Lenovo has announced this achievement around the time IDC has said that it is no longer among the top-five smartphone companies in the world. While Samsung, Apple and Huawei lead the charts, the likes of Vivo and OPPO have leapfrogged Lenovo and Xiaomi to be a part of this esteemed list.

Lenovo K4 Note specifications, features:

At Rs 11,999, you get a device with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, MediaTek MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage along with microSD card slot.

The K4 Note also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, a fingerprint scanner, 3,300mAh battery, and dual front-facing 1.5W speakers with support for Dolby Atmos.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and USB OTG support. On the software front, it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Docoss X1 hands-on video, photos posted online to prove Rs 888 smartphone is real

Docoss, little-known manufacturer of the Docoss X1 smartphone that seems to have caught attention of consumers in India this week, has posted images and a hands-on video of its Rs. 888 smartphone in a bid to assure prospective customers the phone is 'real'. After Ringing Bells Freedom 251 and mPhone, the scepticism around smartphone that sounds too good to be true is understandable, and Docoss is trying its best to dispel the duplicitous image.

To recall, the incredible price alongside the malfunctioning booking process and obscure origins of the company raised doubts about whether the Docoss X1 was in fact genuine, or just a scam.

The smartphone is currently up for pre-bookings (and will be up till Friday 10pm) via SMS and the company's website. On Thursday afternoon, Docoss' Twitterhandle tweeted, "Don't panic real phone real images," alongside four images of the Docoss X1 that appear to match the device seen on the company's website.

The company in the video goes on to reiterate the specifications of the Docoss X1 smartphone, and claims that while people are wondering how it has managed to provide these specifications at this price, that's "actually the USP of our product." In the meanwhile, Docoss on Friday also published a video on its YouTube channel.

Docoss X1 Specification and Features:

The Docoss X1 features a 4-inch display, with an unconventional resolution of 400x480 pixels; a 1.2GHz dual-core Cortex-A7 processor; 1GB of RAM; 4GB of inbuilt storage that's expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB); GPRS/ EDGE; 3G; a 1300mAh battery; a 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash; a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

In the meantime, Docoss Director, Shashi Kant Sharma, revealed that the company aims to make money from affiliate marketing. “We’re going in for affiliate marketing. The Docoss X1 will have apps like Flipkart, Amazon and various other Indian e-commerce apps. Each time a Docoss customer installs these apps on their phones, we will get anywhere between Rs 22- Rs 40 for it. This is how we plan to earn from this smartphone. In fact, this is only our first smartphone. We’ll have another one soon,” he told Digit.in.in. He also revealed that the company has plans to launch 4G smartphones in the near future as well.

Motorola Schedules launch event in India on May 17, Moto G4 and Moto G4 plus expected

Motorola, now owned by Lenovo, is expected to launch its upcoming smartphones, Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus on 17th May. The company is reportedly sending invites to various media organization for an event on that date. However, as reported, the invite does not say anything about the devices, but the phones are highly expected to be launched in the event.

Tag line:- "You wouldn't want to miss this!"

The fourth-gen Moto G aka Moto G4 has been on the rumor mills for quite some time now. Reports also claim that Motorola could be launching not one but two smartphones — Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus. Both smartphones are believed to have similar set of specifications, though the Moto G4 Plus will boast a fingerprint scanner as well.

We have come across leaked photos hinting at a design with curved edges, matte finish, and a pill-shaped camera strip at the back. The Moto G4 Plus is likely to boast a square-ish shaped fingerprint scanner placed in front below the display. It is also likely to feature a laser autofocus for the camera, something that you won’t get with the Moto G4.

Details are scarce, but reports claim that both smartphones will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display, an octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage. A couple of reports also claim that the smartphones will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera.

We have also come across reports saying that the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus will be available somewhere in the region of 240 Euros (Rs 18,000 approximately), and 280 Euros (Rs 21,000 approximately) respectively. This is unlikely to be the final pricing, since the Moto G smartphones till now have been priced around the Rs 10,000 mark.

Motorola Moto X(2016) gets benchmark with Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM

The Moto X (2016) is said to have passed the Geekbench benchmark test with a Snapdragon 820 SoC on board. The benchmark results shown in an image posted by Mobipicker also reveal further details about the handset's innards.

The Moto X (2016) is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with Adreno 530 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. It is likely to be available in 32GB and 64GB storage variants.

Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing announced that Motorola will be unveiling something ‘new and exciting’ on June 9. This could very well be Motorola’s latest flagship smartphone. Considering the launch date, the Moto X (2016) could also be among the first smartphones to run on Android N out-of-the-box. Apart from the Moto X (2016), reports also claim that Motorola could launch Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus smartphones at the same event.

Some of the other details rumoured for the Moto X3 include a USB Type-C port while the handset was seen featuring the iconic Motorola logo "M" on top of the screen. A recent listing on Zauba, an import and export tracking site, had tipped that the anticipated Motorola Moto X3 smartphone was shipped to India. The listing further suggested that the Moto X3 may feature a 5-inch display and support a single SIM card.

Considering that Lenovo has confirmed plans to overhaul the Moto brand to "Moto by Lenovo", the Moto X3 aka Moto X (2016) smartphone is unlikely to don just Motorola branding. We will have to wait for the handset's unveiling to find out the new branding.

It only launched the Moto 360 (2nd Gen.)  in India last December, now it has finally launched the Moto 360 Sport in India. The Sport is a variant of the second generation Moto 360 with a handful of changes.

ISRO Begins Countdown for launch of India's Final Navigation Satellite IRNSS-1G on April 18
The satellite IRNSS-1G (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System-1G) is part of a constellation of seven satellites to provide accurate position information service to users across the country and the region, extending up to an area of 1,500km. Till date, India has launched six regional navigational satellites (IRNSS-1A, 1B, 1C, ID, 1E and 1F).

The 51.30 hour countdown for the launch of India's seventh and final navigation satellite on April 28 afternoon begun at 9:20am on Tuesday at Sriharikota rocket port of Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), said a senior official.

"The countdown started at 9:20am. The rocket PSLV-XL will blast off from the first launch pad at 12:50pm on April 28," P. Kunhikrishnan, director, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota told IANS over phone.

Though the full system comprises nine satellites - seven in orbit and two on the ground as stand-by, the navigation services could be made operational with four satellites, Isro officials said earlier. Each satellite costs about Rs. 150 crores while the PSLV-XL version rocket costs about Rs. 130 crores. The seven rockets would entail an outlay of about Rs. 910 crores. The first satellite, IRNSS-1A, was launched in July 2013, the second in April 2014, the third on October 2014, the fourth in March 2015, and the fifth and sixth on January 20 and March 10 this year. Once the regional navigation system is in place, India needs not depend upon other platforms.

The IRNSS is similar to the global positioning system (GPS) of the US (24 satellites), Glonass of Russia, and Galileo of Europe as well as China's Beidou.

While GPS and Glonass are fully functional global systems, the Chinese and the Japanese systems are offering regional coverage and Europe's Galileo is yet to be operational. The IRNSS will provide two types of services - standard positioning service and restricted service. The former is provided to all users and the latter is an encrypted service for authorised users.

Meanwhile Isro is in the process of developing the front-end radio frequency chips for the satellite navigation system. The initial version is expected to be ready this year, Isro chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar told IANS earlier.

Samsung Galaxy C7 with 5.5 inch full HD display, 4GB RAM leaked: Specifications and features

It’s been widely reported that Samsung is working on a new ‘C’ series of smartphones, with the first two launches expected to be the Galaxy C5 and the Galaxy C7. We have already come across a few details about the Galaxy C5 before courtesy of a benchmarking website, and now it’s the Galaxy C7′s turn. The upcoming smartphone too has been spotted on GFXBench website.

As per earlier leaks, Samsung’s new Galaxy C-series too will boast a combination of metal and glass body. But the design and integration of the two materials is said to be much better than Samsung’s Galaxy A series. It is expected to be placed between the mid-range Galaxy A series and the budget Galaxy J series.

Samsung Galaxy C7 specifications and  features:

According to the benchmark list, the Galaxy C7 flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. It is also expected to feature 32GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel selfie camera, and it will run on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.

The smartphone was recently spotted on Zauba, India’s import-export website, with a price tag of Rs 13,635, GSMArena reports. While the retail price is bound to be different, the price range falls in line with earlier reports. In India, Samsung recently launched the Galaxy J3 (2016) for Rs 8,990, while the Galaxy A5 (2016) was launched earlier this year for Rs 29,400.

If Samsung manages to keep the price tag around the Rs 15,000 mark, the Samsung Galaxy C7 will give tough competition to smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Lenovo K4 Note and the Yu Yureka Plus to name a few. We will however reserve our comparison till Samsung launches the smartphone.

Apple iPhone Prices hikes up to 29 per cent in India
Prices of the older iPhones in India have increased in the last one week, reportedly because people are buying the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6S that are better value for money compared to the recently-launched iPhone SE. Now to save the iPhone SE from the competition from other iPhones, retailers seem to have increased the price of the older iPhones. According to Economic Times, Apple has sold only a few thousand units of the SE in India. The hike, as per the report, can be as high as 29 per cent in the case of the iPhone 6.

Although it is possible that the prices may have been "corrected". Of late, the older iPhones were selling at prices that were significantly lower than their MRPs. But now their prices are closer to MRPs. But it is also possible that Apple may not have anything to do with it. It is likely that prices may have gone up in response to a recent government directive on e-commerce that aims to curtail heavy discounts available from online retailers.

Apple has priced the iPhone SE base 16GB variant at Rs 39,000 in India. But until last week the iPhone 6 16GB could be purchased for as low as Rs 31,000 while the current-generation iPhone 6S (base model) was selling for around Rs 40,000. As expected, this puts the iPhone SE in a tight spot.

Nowadays the iPhone 6 costs as high as Rs 40,000 while the price of the iPhone 6S could go all the way up to Rs 48,000. It has also been reported that Apple is looking to hike the price of the iPhone 5S by as much as 22 per cent.

Only recently, the company started a corporate leasing programme for the iPhone SE by offering the phone for just Rs 999 per month for two years. It also started similar offers on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6S for Rs 1,199 and Rs 1,399 per month. It is yet to be seen how the renewed pricing affects its corporate leasing programme.

Samsung Galaxy S5 gets Android Marshmallow Update in India
After having rolled out Android Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones earlier this year, Samsung has now turned its attention on the older Galaxy S5. The company has started rolling out Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update for the Galaxy S5 users in India, and has also bumped up the firmware version to G900IDDU1CPD1.

According to SamMobile the Android Marshmallow update started rolling out for Galaxy S5 users over the weekend. As is the norm, the update will be rolled out in phases and you might have to wait a bit to get a notification. Alternatively, you can also head over to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update to manually check for the update.

LeEco has launched its new range of smartphones, the Le 2, Le 2 Pro and Le Max 2, as well as a VR headset, which the company says will go on sale in May. The VR headset is compatible with the Le Max 2. LeEco could be all set to bring its latest smartphones, the Le 2, Le 2 Pro, Le Max 2 smartphones to India. The company has sent out media invites for a May 3 event, which will take place in Mumbai.

Price:

The LeEco Le 2, Le 2 Pro costs 1,099 Yuan, ( Rs 11,300 approx) and 1499 Yuan (Rs 14,900 approx) respectively. The Le Max 2 will come in two version — one with 4GB RAM at 2099 Yuan (approx. Rs 20,099) and another with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at 2499 Yuan (Rs 24,900 approx).

All Smartphones support CDLA for sound and support USB Type-C powered headphones, not the regular 3.5 mm headphone jack. Interestingly, Apple is expected to get rid of the 3.5 mm headphone jack with the iPhone 7. In terms of software, all three smartphones run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with a layer of EUI 5.5 running atop.

LeEco Le 2 specifications and features:

The smartphone houses a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display. It is powered by MediaTek’s Helio X20 tri-cluster deca-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable storage. Other features include a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, an 8-megapixel selfie camera up front, a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, and connectivity options such as 4G LTE with VoLTE support and Wi-Fi 802.11ac among others.

LeEco Le 2 Pro specifications and features:

As the name suggest, the ‘Pro’ variant comes with a slightly powerful hardware under the hood. While the screen size, battery capacity and connectivity options remain the same as the Le 2, the ‘Pro’ version is powered by MediaTek’s Helio X25 deca-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB internal storage options. It also gets a slightly higher resolution 21-megapixel rear camera, compared to a 16-megapixel unit on the Le 2.

LeEco Le Max 2 specifications and features:

Lastly, the Le Max 2 comes with beastly specification of the three. It flaunts a 5.7-inch QHD display (2560×1440 pixels) and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The Le Max 2 packs a slightly larger capacity 3,100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 feature with connectivity options that include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS among others.

Apple Shuts Down iTunes Allowance will be Next Month

Apple no longer allows users to set up iTunes Allowances for their kids as it plans to completely shut down the programme on May 25 this year. The feature allowed parents to set up a monthly credit line for kids to spend on App Store and iTunes.

The announcement came via a support note on the Cupertino-based tech firm's website. "After April 13, 2016, you will no longer be able to create a new iTunes Allowance. All existing allowances will cancel May 25, 2016," the note said. The firm added that post May 25, the unused allowance credit will remain in the user's account until it has been used.

As Apple shuts its iTunes Allowance programme, it is suggesting affected users start using the Family Sharing feature as an alternative. Also, this will not affect the availability of iTunes Gifts as users can still buy it and send it to friends/ family.

Family Sharing in iTunes was introduced by Apple with iOS 8. The feature lets you share your purchases - such as books, apps and music - across family members without having to share iTunes accounts. So, for example, if a kid wants to buy an app using the family's iPad, the parent (or family organiser) verifies the purchase from their iPhone. It also means that if one family member has paid for a book on your iPhone, the rest of the family doesn't need to buy another copy of the book, or borrow their device, to read it.

iOS users would need to set it up on the different devices in your family. The family organiser invites the other members, and agrees to pay for any purchases the members initiate from their iTunes accounts. The family members can then accept the Family Sharing invitation from their devices once they're signed into their iCloud accounts.
