Facebook launches Canvas to make mobile ads more creative

The social media giant Facebook on Friday launched Canvas a new full-screen, immersive mobile ad experience that loads nearly instantaneously when someone taps on a news feed ad for advertisers across the world.

You can easily build your Canvas using a combination of videos, still images and call-to-action buttons. In Canvas, people can swipe through a carousel of images, tilt to view panoramic images and zoom in to view images in detail.

Its a product that represents our commitment to creative craft and delivering the best mobile experience for businesses and people, said Chris Jones, head of creative technology, Facebook Creative Shop.

Facebook says test users have responded positively to the ads so far: users spend an average of 31 seconds per ad, and over 70 seconds for the best ones, which sounds like a lot for an ad. Overall 53 percent of users view more than half of the canvas.

Canvas was built to bring your content to life in a fast-loading and seamless experience on Android and iOS. Leveraging the same technology used to display photos and videos quickly in the Facebook app, Canvas loads quickly, as much as 10 times faster than the standard mobile web.
