Vodafone, the country's second largest carrier
by subscribers, has launched 4G LTE services in Delhi-NCR region, following
similar launches in Kolkata, Karnataka, and Kerala telecom circles.
With
this, Vodafone 4G services will be present in 5 circles of Kerala, Karnataka,
Mumbai, Delhi & NCR and Kolkata, which today contribute to 30% of industry
revenues and close to 50% of Vodafone India data revenues.
The telco
said that it plans to launch 4G network in Mumbai and Bengaluru shortly.
"Initial
response from customers who have experienced our 4G services in Kerala,
Karnataka, and Kolkata has been positive and encouraging. As a steadfast
partner of Digital India, we remain focused on deploying multiple technologies
-be it 2G, 3G and now 4G-for optimum use as each technology has its own vital
role to play in servicing the myriad connectivity needs of consumers across the
country," Naveen Chopra, Chief Operating Officer, Vodafone India said.
Vodafone
is offering free upgrade to 4G for customers along with high speed 4G SIM. In
addition, it is offering three months of free access to mobile TV, movies via
HOOQ and Hungama Play, and music through Vodafone Play service.
The telco
said that it will expand 4G network in the Delhi-NCR region in a phased manner,
even as it continues to improve 2G and 3G networks.
Chinese
equipment vendor Huawei is deploying the 4G network for Vodafone in the
Delhi-NCR region, Chopra informed. Huawei is also deploying base stations and
other equipment for Vodafone's 4G networks in Karnataka and Kerala circles.
Built on
the efficient 1800 MHz band, Vodafone's network will enable Vodafone 4G
customers to access internet via mobile with speeds across a range of smart
devices including Mobile Wi-Fi. The high-speed data services can be readily
accessed from 4G enabled handsets offered by smartphone manufacturers like
Apple, Samsung, Micromax, Microsoft, and Lava among others available across the
country.
The
company also announced the availability of 4G SIMs for its customers at all of
its Vodafone stores located at prominent locations across Delhi & NCR. It
is also making arrangements of home delivery of 4G-ready SIMs for its premium
high-value customers in Delhi & NCR.
Leveraging
its global network and experience, Vodafone said that it is also the first and
only telecom service provider to currently offer international roaming on 4G to
its India customers visiting UK, Romania, Spain and Netherlands.
