Last
month, some users reported seeing links in Google+ opening as Chrome Custom
Tabs. Version 7.2 of the Google+ for Android app rolls out Custom Tabs to
everyone and adds several new features in addition to bug fixes.
Chrome
Custom Tabs are much faster than being pushed out to the browser or a web view.
In addition to speed, users will already be signed into their websites and have
access to other Chrome features like saved passwords, autofill, and tap to
search. Other apps, like Twitter, have already adopted it. Hopefully, the
feature will come next to articles recommended as Google Now cards.
Google+’s Custom Tab features a share icon with the option to share back
to the social network, copy the link, or share to other apps. An overflow menu
is also present with navigation buttons, find in page, and Open in Chrome. This
update also adds a recent search history with auto-complete and the ability to
quickly scroll to the top of your Home, Collections, Communities, or
Notifications feed by tapping on their corresponding icon in the bottom bar.
