Huawei on Wednesday launched the its P9 flagship smartphone in India. While the company was anticipated to bring the larger P9 Plus variant to India as well, it hasn't done so. The P9 has been priced at Rs. 39,999, and will be available exclusively via Flipkart at 3pm IST from Wednesday itself. The company is also touting a VIP service with 2-year warranty, 3-month screen replacement warranty, and a pickup and drop service.
As you would expect from a flagship smartphone, the Huawei P9 flaunts a unibody design made up of aerospace-grade aluminum, diamond-cut edges, and covered in 2.5D glass. But the talking point clearly is the smartphone’s photographic chops. While Huawei may not be the first smartphone to opt for a dual-camera setup at the back, its functionality is a tad different.
The Huawei P9 features a pair of 12-megapixel snappers at the back, accompanied by Monochrome and RGB sensors. The camera also comes with built-in dual-core ISP, professional DSP, and the depth measurement ISP for improved image focusing, speeds, processing. Huawei says the camera setup is good enough to capture photos with great colors, details and sharpness, and even works well in low light.
The rear camera also features laser auto-focus, hybrid auto-focus, contrast focus and even depth focus feature. However, it is worth pointing out that OIS (optical image stabilization) is missing. The primary camera is also capable of shooting videos at 4K resolution. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture, and 1080p video recording capabilities.
The Huawei P9 flaunts a 5.2-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display, and is powered by a Kirin 955 64-bit octa-core processor. It also features 3GB of RAM, 32GB built-in storage, which can further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card (hybrid setup).
The Huawei P9 variant launched in India bears 32GB of inbuilt storage, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). To recall, a 4GB of RAM/ 64GB of inbuilt storage variant was also unveiled at the global launch, but has not been brought to India.
The rest of the specifications include a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, a fingerprint scanner placed at the back, and connectivity options like 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 2.4G/5G, a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port. On the software front, the Huawei P9 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.
As for those wondering what they're missing out on with the Huawei P9 Plus, which for now hasn't been brought to the country, there isn't too much of a difference. It sports a larger 5.5-inch full-HD Super Amoled display (with Pressure Touch technology), comes in only a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant, and bears a 3400mAh battery.
