Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to launch in India today: Here’s everything you need to know

A week after the global unveiling of the Galaxy Note7, Samsung is all set to launch the phablet in India today. This year’s Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge have already raised the bar high for flagship smartphones, and with the Galaxy Note7, Samsung is set to do the same with phablets. In many ways, the Galaxy Note7 borrows some key elements from Galaxy S7 edge, be it the design language, features or hardware. Ahead of the launch, here’s everything you need to know about the Galaxy Note7.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 live webcast start 12:00pm(IST), Are you excited watching here. Some days ago Galaxy Note 7 rumors come with New Variant 6GB of RAM and 128GB Internal Storege.

Samsung Galaxy Note7 specifications and features

The Galaxy Note7 flaunts a Galaxy S7 edge-like display but it is marginally larger at 5.7-inches. It still retains the QHD resolution and is a Super AMOLED panel with dual edge curved display. It is also the first device to boast the new Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, which can sustain drops from height up to 1.6 meters. The Galaxy Note7 is powered by Samsung’s 64-bit Exynos 8890 octa-core processor, which also powers the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Some variants of the Galaxy Note7 are also powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core SoC, but India is more likely to get the Exynos variant.

With 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, there is also a hybrid SIM card slot that accepts two nano SIM cards or one nano SIM card and one microSD card up to 256GB. In the photography department, the Galaxy Note7 is equipped with the same 12-megapixel rear camera as the Galaxy S7-family. With aperture of f/1.7, the camera also features dual pixels technology, phase detection auto-focus, OIS (optical image stabilization) and 4K video recording capabilities. The phablet also features a 5-megapxiel selfie camera of aperture f/1.7.

In terms of connectivity, you get dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. It is also the first Samsung device to come with the new USB Type-C port. Armed with a 3,500mAh battery, the Galaxy Note7 also includes Wireless Fast charging feature. The Galaxy Note7 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with revamped TouchWiz UI on top.

The Galaxy Note7 also comes with an improved S-Pen stylus with new Air Command functionalities such as word translation, ability to create GIFs from videos, ‘always-on’ display with feature to jot down notes without unlocking the phablet and more. The S-Pen also includes water resistance capabilities, which means it can easily out last a few accidental splashes or a stroll in the rain. The Galaxy Note7 features IP68 certification, which means you can submerge it under 1.5 meter water for up to 30 minutes. Even the S-Pen is waterproof this time.

It also comes with an iris scanner, which can be used to unlock the phablet and also to access ‘secure folder’ where you can keep your files, photos, contacts and other content safe from prying eyes. However, it only works with Samsung apps. Google services and other third-party apps will continue to use the fingerprint scanner, which is embedded in the home button.

Right now, pricing is the only missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle. However, rumors claim that the Galaxy Note7 could set you back by about Rs 60,000.  In all probability, Samsung would kickstart the pre-orders soon after the launch event, with shipping expected from August 19, which is the same day as its global availability.
