Moto Z, Moto Z Play to launch in India today; here’s how to watch live stream online at 12PM

After unveiling the Moto Z at the Lenovo Tech World 2016 event earlier this year, the company is now ready to bring the flagship smartphone to India. Motorola is hosting an event in India today to launch the much-awaited Moto Z as well as the Moto Z Play smartphones. With the event set to kick off at 12:00PM today, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming smartphones. Motorola will be live streaming today’s event, and you can watch it live in the video embedded below.

The Moto Z boasts a full-metal unibody design, and one of its biggest talking points is its semi-modular capabilities. This essentially lets users snap on external modules called Moto Mods to the ’16 magnetic’ port at the back, which add extra functionality to the Moto Z. Motorola has unveiled a handful of these modules which includes the likes of JBL’s SoundBoost to boost audio output of the smartphones, InstaShare mod to turn your smartphone into a projector, and a PowerPack that can boost the Moto Z’s battery life by up to 23 hours. There’s also the Hasselblad True Zoom camera mod that the company unveiled recently.

Moto Z specifications and features

The Moto Z flaunts a 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) AMOLED display, and is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. There is also 32GB and 64GB storage options along with a microSD card slot to further expand the onboard memory.

The smartphone also features a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS), dual LED flash, 5-megpaixel selfie camera and a 2,600mAh battery with support for Turbo Charging. Like the most Moto smartphones, the Moto Z also boasts water-repellent nano coating. It comes with fingerprint scanner while the connectivity options such as 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. It is worth pointing out here that the Moto Z doesn’t have 3.5mm audio jack, and supports USB-based audio transfer. Already Android players like LeEco have adopted CDLA technology to skip 3.5mm audio jack. Apple has also removed 3.5mm audio jack on its latest iPhones. On the software front, the Moto Z runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS out-of-the-box.

Moto Z Play specifications and features

In addition to the Moto Z, Motorola is also expected to launch the Moto Z Play tomorrow. The Moto Z Play was unveiled at IFA 2016 last month, and its highlight is the battery life. The 3,510mAh battery underneath is said to be good enough to deliver up to 50 hours of back up on ‘mixed usage’. It also comes with Motorola’s fast charging technology TurboPower that can deliver up to nine hours worth of power in 15 minutes of charging.

As for the smartphone’s specs, it comes with a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. There is 32GB storage onboard, which can be expanded using a microSD card.

The Moto Z Play also features a 16-megapixel rear camera with laser auto-focus, PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, and 4K video recording capabilities. There is also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, fingerprint scanner, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi and USB Type-C port. Unlike the Moto Z, this smartphone comes with the 3.5mm audio jack.
