Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and Nokia 3310 India launch date expected to be announced on May 8

It’s been quite a while since Nokia-branded, Android smartphones launched but they are yet to make it to India. HMD Global has now sent out media invites for an event on May 8 where the company could possibly announce the India launch date for the Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3, and the Nokia 3310 redux. These smartphones are already available in China but launch in international markets is highly looked forward to.

The invitation by HMD Global reads, “A conversation with Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global,” on the said date without giving any further details about what the discussion would entail. While we can expect the company to announce the launch date for the anticipated smartphones, in all likelihood, the prices will be kept under wraps till the final day of actual launch.

Although ‘Nokia’ is now managed by HMD Global, it is considered a legacy brand in India where a lot of its handsets enjoyed immeasurable popularity. Akin to other developing markets, the anticipation is more surrounding the new Nokia 3310 which is considered as the sturdiest of feature phones ever made. For the comeback Nokia 3310, there has been an addition of new pop colors and a slight redesign. While there is no official word on the pricing of the new phone, if previous reports are anything go by, it could be priced somewhere around Rs 3,899. In April, an online retailer in India listed the Nokia 3310 (2017) model online for pre-orders.

Talking about the other three smartphones; the Nokia 6 flaunts a 5.5-inch full-HD screen with 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. It is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel front camera. Fuelling the smartphone is a 3,000mAh battery.

Earlier this week, a Silver color variant of the Nokia 6 with 32GB of internal storage was spotted online, priced around Rs 16,000. The 64GB model is originally priced at £229.99, which translates to roughly Rs 19,000.

The Nokia 5 features a 5.2-inch HD (720 pixel) IPS display and is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. It further packs a 13-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel front camera. It is also powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Lastly, Nokia 3, is the smallest model with a 5.0-inch HD (720 pixel) IPS LCD display and is powered by MediaTek quad-core 1.3GHz processor  paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It is further equipped with 8-megapixel rear and front cameras. It packs a smaller 2,650mAh battery.

Even before these Nokia-branded Android smartphones have made it to global markets, rumors are already rife that HMD Global will be announcing its next flagship smartphone – the Nokia 8 – sometime in June this year. Speculated to pack the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, the Nokia 8 would seek to compete against rival flagship smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, Xiaomi Mi 6, and the upcoming iPhone 8.
