Samsung is soon expected to join the bandwagon of companies offering smartphones with dual cameras. While the Galaxy Note 8 is speculated to come with the dual rear cameras, but Samsung may launch a smartphone with dual camera setup a lot earlier. So far, the rumored Galaxy C10 has been believed to be the first such Samsung phone. But if a new leak is to believed, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) could debut with two cameras on the back. The 2017 iteration of the Galaxy J7 is expected to launch very soon, and there could be different variants depending on the market.

This new leak shared on Weibo (spotted by GizmoChina), comes from the same user who posted about the Galaxy C10 featuring a dual camera setup. Moreover, the Galaxy J7 (2017) has been leaked numerous times by reliable sources and not one showed the possibility of a dual camera setup. Only an official launch of the Galaxy J7 (2017) would clear our doubts now.

The Galaxy J7 (2017) could be going through a refreshing design change according to renders leaked by Roland Quandt on Twitter. The smartphone was shown sporting a display with almost no side bezels, and U-shaped antenna bands on its rear chassis. Essential Phone with 5.7-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 835 SoC, new digital assistant launched: Price, specifications, features

After months of anticipation, Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone has finally launched. The smartphone is priced at $699 (approximately Rs 45,200) and boasts some top of the line features such as an edge-to-edge display, similar to the one we have already seen on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8, along with being powered by Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 835 SoC. The Essential Phone is currently up for the reservation at Essential.com, but only in the United States. The international release of the smartphone will be announced at a later date.

What makes the Essential Phone turn heads in a crowded smartphone market is that it has been built by Andy Rubin – the man behind creating Android, the world’s most popular mobile OS. To add to the frills, it features what the company is calling the ‘world’s thinnest dual camera system built for a phone.’ In addition to that, the smartphone allows all accessories to be magnetically snapped to the phone. The company has also showcased a 360-degree camera accessory.

“Other 360° cameras are big, bulky, and complicated to use. We thought it was about time someone made a 360° camera for the rest of us. Simply click the 360° camera to your phone to point, shoot, and share. It’s that easy,” the company claims on its website.

Additionally, Andy Rubin also said that the device will have a new digital assistant on board. It will go head to head with Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby, although not a lot details are known about it at this point. One thing that’s for sure is that it will have to bring a few new features to the table if it has any chance of competing against its rivals.

Essential Phone specifications and features

Delving deeper into the specifications of the smartphone; the Essential Phone is built with a combination of titanium and ceramic for the added strength. It features a 5.7-inch Quad HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top.

Under the impressively slim form factor, there is 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is powered by a 3,040mAh battery with fast charging. The Essential Phone features a magnetic connector and wireless data transfer. Essential will ship a charging dock with the smartphone that will connect with small metal pins.

For photography, the Essential Phone gets a dual rear camera module featuring a pair of 13-megapixel regular sensor and a monochrome sensor with f/1.85 lens. This module works the same way as the Huawei P9 and P10. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel front camera which is also capable of recording 4K videos. Connectivity options include rear fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS. The phone also ditches the standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Microsoft Build 2017: Here are all the biggest announcements from the two-day developer conference

Microsoft’s yearly developer conference, Build 2017, has concluded and the software giant has made a number of key announcements at the two-day extravaganza. Being a developer conference, the major focus of day-one was on services that will help developers write apps with ease. On the second day, Microsoft announced the next major version of Windows 10 along with a new movie maker app.

One of the key changes to the next Windows 10 update includes improved focus on performance, user interface and Windows Store apps. Microsoft is also working on making its apps compatible with Android and iOS platforms to tap on the wider audience. Yes, the improvements sound interesting and here’s a quick glimpse at everything that Microsoft announced at Build 2017 developer conference.

On day one, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Windows 10 now runs on 500 million devices. The milestone is pretty impressive considering that the operating system was released less than a couple of years ago. Besides these numbers, Microsoft Nadella also revealed that Cortana is now used by over 141 million users, whereas Office is used by 100 million customers on a monthly basis.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

The next major update for Windows 10 will be called Fall Creators Update, and it will be rolled out later this year. Microsoft also introduced its new Fluent Design system, a design language for writing Windows apps. Fluent Design is a refreshing new take on Google’s Material Design language.

When writing apps, programmers can detect the type of inputs that are available – be it camera, touchscreen, keyboard or mice. Fluent Design system will also let developers customize apps for devices with larger screens and also for the ones that do not feature any display. Fluent Design also makes it easier to make apps for other platforms such as HoloLens and Windows mixed reality. Microsoft Fluent Design system official video watching here.

Windows Story Remix

Windows Movie Maker, which has been a part of Windows XP, Vista, and other Windows operating systems has been missing from the Windows 10 OS. Now, Microsoft has announced Windows Story Remix app that will be rolled out along with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

The app uses machine learning to create professional looking videos for you, while also bringing the ability to create visually appealing content. It also comes with collaborative tools, allowing you to share your footage with your friends and colleagues. To enhance your videos, you can also add effects such as explosions, fireballs, import 3D images, soundtracks and animations among others. The Windows Story Remix official video watching here.

PowerPoint Translator

After adding real-time translation to Skype, Microsoft has now added a new PowerPoint plugin to the presentation app. This plugin will allow you to instantly translate subtitles and text in real-time. It leverages Microsoft’s Translation APIs to translate content in 10 different languages including English, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese, among others.

Cortana-powered speakers

With the likes of AI-based speakers such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa already out there, Microsoft is a little late to the party with Cortana-powered speakers. However, Microsoft is taking a different approach here. While Google and Amazon make their own hardware, Microsoft is leaving it to hardware partners.

A couple of days ahead of Build 2017, Harman Kardon announced its Cortana-powered Invoke speaker. Similar to Amazon Echo, it offers 360-degree speakers, Skype calling and smart home controls using voice commands. Its ability to make and receive Skype calls with other Skype devices such as smartphones and landlines is an interesting addition to a home assistant. Microsoft also announced that HP and Intel have also joined the league and will soon release their Cortana-powered speakers.

Visual Studio for Mac

At the Build 2017 developer conference, Microsoft also announced the launch of its latest Visual Studio 2017 for Mac. The tool will allow developers to use Microsoft’s integrated development environment (IDE) on MacOS to build apps for mobile, web and cloud. It will be compatible with computers running OS X El Capitan 10.11 or higher.

Ubuntu now available on Windows Store

After announcing its plans to bring the Bash shell to Windows last year, Microsoft has now partnered Canonical to bring Ubuntu to Windows Store. It is now available to download from the Windows Store, and will let users to natively run Ubuntu tools and Utilities. This is a big advantage for developers as it will allow them to run Windows and Linux apps side-by-side.

Microsoft has also announced that Apple will be bringing iTunes to Windows Store, with full compatibility for iPhone and Apple Music. It’s good news for Windows 10 S users, where one can only install apps from Windows Store, with no support for X86 (.exe) apps. What’s more, besides Ubuntu, other Linux flavors such as Fedora and Suse are also coming to the Windows Store, later this year.

Other than these, Microsoft also announced the Graph API, Microsoft Teams for developers with new features, Cortana Skills, and an AI-powered virtual sales assistant. However, one of the most impactful announcements at the Build 2017 developer conference was the life-changing Emma Watch designed for a patient with Parkinson’s disease. The device features vibrating motors to compensate the tremors and steady her hand.

Moto's Entire Smartphone Lineup for 2017 Gets Leaked, With a Few Surprises

Usually we get leaks regarding one or two smartphones from a company at a time but now Lenovo's entire Moto lineup for 2017 seems to have popped up on the Internet in the form of a leaked presentation slide. As per the leaked image, the company will be launching nine smartphones spread across Moto Z, Moto X, Moto G, Moto E, and Moto C Series targeted at different buyers during the year. If you're wondering why the Moto G would still be an upcoming phone, after the launch of the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus, it appears a new Moto GS series is in the offing. Separately, a video of Lenovo's Moto X4 presentation has been leaked while seven of the company's upcoming smartphones have been tipped to feature Android Nougat.

First coming to the leaked image of entire Moto lineup. The presentation slide was obtained by well-known tipster Evan Blass and shows the names of the Lenovo's Moto-branded smartphones spread across 5 series. The new Moto C Series has been leaked several times in the recent past. In the leaked slide, the Moto C series has been described to cover 'Unlimited Essentials' in two models - Moto C and Moto C Plus. While Moto C will feature a 5-inch FWVGA (480x854 pixels) display, the Moto C Plus will come with a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display and a 4000mAh battery.

Moving to the popular Moto E Series, described to offer 'Unlimited Value', Lenovo will launch Moto E and Moto E Plus smartphones this year. The Moto E will sport a 5-inch HD display, 2.5D curved glass, and for the first time in this series - fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, Moto E Plus smartphone will come with a 5.5- inch display and a massive 5000mAh battery.

While the company launched Moto G5 earlier this year, it is expected to launch new smartphones in its G series that has been said to come as 'Unlimited Premium'. The leaked presentation image suggests that Lenovo will launch Moto GS and GS+ smartphones this year but Evan Blass says that the phones will be named Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus instead. In its branding, Moto usually only appends the generation along with the smartphone series, i.e, calling the Moto G5 the Moto G fifth generation. Thus, Blass' naming clarification makes perfect sense when pointing a new GS-series. The Moto G5S will come with a 5.2-inch full-HD display and full metal body while the Moto G5S Plus will sport a 5.5-inch full-HD display and a dual-camera setup.

The source of information comes from famous leakster Evan Blass. Apart, from the change in name, Blass did not reveal other details of the phone. In yet another leaked presentation, spotted by liliputing, the Moto X (2017) specifications and features have surfaced.

According to the presentation slides, the Moto X (2017) aka Moto X4 will come with a dual-rear camera setup along with a dual-LED flash and laser auto focus. Apart from this, the slides reveal that the smartphone will feature a 5.5 inch display, Qualcomm’s recently launched Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC built on 14nm process, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It is expected to house a 3,800mAh battery with support for fast charging. Additionally, a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance is also expected.

In the photography department, the Moto X4 could sport twin 13-megapixel snappers at the back. It is not clear if Motorola will go for an RGB + monochrome sensor combination, or go for a standard + telephoto lens combination. The resolution of the front-facing camera is not known at the moment. The phone is expected to run on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

Finally coming to Moto Z series, which has been said to feature 'Unlimited Capabilities', Lenovo will launch its Moto Z Play and Moto Z Force smartphones in 2017. While Moto Z Play will come with a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display and feature support for Moto Mods, the Moto Z Force will sport a ShatterShield screen and feature support for gigabit LTE and Moto Mods. As Gigabit LTE is currently supported only by Snapdragon 835 SoC, the Moto Z Force will feature the aforementioned processor if not a newer variant.

Separately, Lenovo's 7 Moto-branded smartphones with model numbers beginning from XT have now received Wi-Fi certification from Wi-Fi Alliance, as pointed out in a report by MobileXpose. The model numbers in consideration are XT1770, XT1772, XT1773, XT1724, XT1725, XT1726, and XT1721. Interestingly, the phones have been suggested to come with Android 7.0/7.1.1 Nougat versions. These phones are expected to be launched in the Moto C or Moto E series and will all be powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 SoC.

Google Fuchsia OS: Watch how the Armadillo UI functions; revamped look and feel, app navigation and more

Google’s all new operating system Fuchsia OS made a brief appearance in August last year. Months later more details about the operating system surfaced on the web. Since its second appearance, there has been a lot of buzz around Fuchsia – one that could succeed Google’s iconic Android OS in the future. Earlier this week we came across the screenshots of the interface, dubbed as Armadillo UI. Now, a video gives a sneak peek at how the UI could function.

The video shows the main features of Armadillo. The video shows the absence of app shortcuts and app drawer. The home screen has a small thumbnail of the user profile at the center. By scrolling up on the home screen, you will see apps which appear in popular format of ‘Stories’, which is currently seen on Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. Then you can enter into the app you want and expand to full-screen or summon a multi-window by dragging an app. The OS also seems to have integrated Google’s digital assistant, Google Now, showing you suggestions along with a new keyboard app.

In case you are wondering what the user profile thumbnail does, it lets you access quick settings to functions like volume, screen brightness, connectivity modes and more. It also shows details such as your wireless network, battery life, and more information about the mobile phone. The Profile Page will most likely be linked to Gmail account as there is an option to “Log Out” provided. Check out the video here.

Considering Fuchsia is a futuristic concept, it is extremely different from the present operating systems we are used to. Currently, all the operating systems in use, be it Android, iOS or BlackBerry OS are based on apps. Our smartphones are cluttered with apps, each serving a specific purpose. The phones are more app-based than task based. In order to perform a particular task, we rely entirely on apps – it could be a single app or a combination of apps.

While some apps are self integrated, at times it becomes essential to shift between 2-3 apps to perform one function. For example – sending a message is a combination of the SMS app as well as the Contacts app. However, they are both integrated saving the user the need to open two apps at a time. But if the task is more complex – like booking a dinner table, the user has to rely on two or three distinct apps – hunting a restaurant, booking a table (on the second app) and renting a cab (app three). The way forward, according to Google is the integration of all these elements into one basic app.

With the advancement in artificial intelligence (AI), we are already seeing apps with interlinks and connections. While such methods are raising a lot of questions over privacy and security, having one app that gives it all will resolve the issue.

Previously leaked images of Fuchsia OS have shown us the card like rectangular format on the home page with no space for apps. They have also shown us the ability to multi-task through split screen, using multiple features at once.

The Armadillo UI is considerably different from the present Android and Google in the past has looked at it for a one-stop OS for smartphones, tablets and personal computers. While initially, it was believed that Fuchsia OS is primarily for Tablets, the new demo video shows us how it could replace not just Android for tablets but both, Android and Chrome OS in the future. However, the OS is still in the very initial stages and there’s still a long way to go before we see a Fuchsia OS device out in the market.
