Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launch tipped for August 23

After the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, Samsung had pinned a lot of hopes on its Galaxy S8 series. While the initial sales of the new flagship smartphones were encouraging, rumors have it that the buzz around the Galaxy S8 is fading away, resulting in slowed sales. This has reportedly prompted Samsung to bring its Galaxy Note 8 to the market earlier than expected.

According to a report, Galaxy S8 sales have softened due to saturation in the premium smartphone segment, and heated competition from Chinese brands. The report further says that the Galaxy S8 sales have touched just 20 percent of the Galaxy S7’s in the same period last year. Samsung reportedly sold 9.8 million units of the S8 as compared to S7’s impressive 12 million. Samsung, as expected, hasn’t commented on the reported declining sales of the Galaxy S8.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 8 a couple of weeks before the previous slated official launch. The launch could happen in early September or late August ahead of the IFA this year. An Investor report claims that Samsung could actually launch the Galaxy Note on August 23. In rushing the Galaxy Note 8 launch, Samsung clearly aims to gain an edge over the newer iPhones, which are speculated to be quite an upgrade this year. Considering that the new Apple iPhone 8 is going to be delayed or ship as late as November, Samsung could actually gain something from the early release of the Galaxy Note 8.

That being said, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is unlikely to be very different from its current flagship smartphones. If rumors are to be believed, the Galaxy Note 8 will have a 6.8-inch display with 19:5:9 ratio. It is likely to run Snapdragon 835 processor and also feature the dual-camera setup on the back. The fingerprint scanner on the back will also move slightly to the right for a better user experience. The smartphone will be powered by a rather humbling 3,300mAh battery.
