If you’re a Motorola smartphone user, and have been waiting for the Android 8.0 Oreo update, here’s some good news for you. In its official blog, the company announced the list of smartphones that will get the Android Oreo update in an official blog. However, the blog doesn’t shed light on a specific date, but says the update would be rolled out this fall or later in the year.
The list for devices includes the Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z2 Play, Moto Z2 Force Edition, Moto X4, Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus smartphones. These include pretty much all the Moto smartphone from last two years and still have an active upgrade cycle.

Notably, the announcement was made in the US and limits the update to smartphones sold in the region. Other global regions might have to wait for few more weeks for the update.
To put this in perspective, Android Oreo update is currently available for Nexus and Pixel smartphones only. With Google’s latest Android distribution chart for September, Android 8.0 Oreo is believed to be currently installed on less than 0.1 percent of all the Android smartphones across the globe. This makes the update worth the wait.
Motorola is the second OEM this year to release its specific list of smartphones for Android 8.0 upgrade, which implies that the Lenovo-owned company is keeping up with its past records of delivering faster updates. Earlier, Sony released its list of smartphones to get the latest Android OS.
Android 8.0 Oreo update on the mentioned smartphones will bring in a host of nifty features that could boost performance, increase battery life, and make the system more secure. Some of the new features from the eighth iteration of Android include split-screen capabilities, smart text selection, improved notifications, auto fill framework, and Google Play Protect.
