HMD Global has been consistent with software updates for the Nokia smartphones. While the company has already confirmed Android 8.0 Oreo update for all the Nokia smartphones, it has now hinted at a timeframe. HMD Global says that Android Oreo will arrive on all Nokia smartphones by year-end.
HMD’s General Manager Mark Trundle confirmed this information in an interview with GadgetGaul. HMD Global’s flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8, is first in line to receive the update. Recently, HMD Global, CPO, Juho Sarvikas tweeted showing the Nokia 8 running Android Oreo beta version. The stable version of Android Oreo is expected to roll out soon. In the coming months we can expect the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 receiving Android Oreo update gradually.
HMD Global has been providing software updates as promised. The Nokia 3 was recently upgraded to Android 7.1.1 Nougat as scheduled. The Nokia 3 is quite the highlight here since it is the cheapest of the lot with a price tag of Rs 9,499. Google officially rolled out Android Oreo last month, and the pace HMD Global is on right now seems pretty quick.
With Android Oreo, Nokia smartphones will be treated to some new and interesting features. The notable ones include Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, and Google Play Protect among others. Android Oreo also promises optimizations such as minimizing background activity in the apps least used, better connectivity, and a longer battery life.
