WhatsApp for Businesses officially announced with plans to monetise in the future

After reports of WhatsApp testing an enterprise edition of the messaging platform, we now have a confirmation from the company itself. It is currently testing new tools and the app is said to be free for small-scale companies. Large firms with a global base of customers will have to get the enterprise version of the app that might be a paid one.

WhatsApp currently clocks 1 billion people using the messenger service and gradually users have found ways to facilitate their business on the platform as well. In a press release, the company says WhatsApp for Business will allow enterprises and companies to send customers useful notifications such as flight times, delivery confirmations, and other updates. WhatsApp will be testing the business edition and tools in the country over the coming weeks. WhatsApp has kept itself open to feedback during the test phase in order to come with effective solutions on time.

From what we know so far, it will let businesses run verified profiles for users to identify from an individual account. It is said that verified accounts will get a green tick badge against their name making it easier for customers to respond to messages. Earlier this month, BookMyShow was spotted running verified business accounts on WhatsApp.

Currently, BookMyShow can send customers ticket confirmation messages via WhatsApp. In addition to its WhatsApp for Business integration, the company is likely to introduce ticket payments and similar options as well. OLA, OYO Rooms, and private Indian Airlines are expected to join the platform soon.

WhatsApp is tight-lipped on an exact dateline for the rollout of new tools and WhatsApp for Business app. With reports floating already, we might soon begin to see a full-fledged business version of the messaging app. The prospects seem enormous for business integrating with WhatsApp’s enterprise app as the company currently has over 200 million monthly active users in India.
