Powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system, the KEYone's hardware keyboard is rather unique considering all other smartphones today sport full touchscreens. As with other BlackBerry devices, the new handset comes preloaded with its own productivity and security apps and platforms to enhance its appeal to corporate users. It is priced at Rs 39,990. The smartphone, which was launched at MWC 2017 back in February, is the last phone to be designed and engineered in-house by BlackBerry.

The launch offers include up to 75GB additional data from Vodafone, meant for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers, as well as new and existing subscribers. American Express is also offering up to 4,000 bonus points to credit card members that buy the smartphone.

BlackBerry KEYone specifications and features

The key feature of the BlackBerry KEYone is its physical QWERTY keyboard, which brings us back to the old days when the earlier BlackBerry devices featured the distinctive keypads. It is an Android 7.1.1-based smartphone, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. The smartphone also has a 12-megapixel camera with large 1.55um pixels, and 8-megapixel front camera.

In order to accommodate the keyboard at the front, the phone has a smaller 4.5-inch 1080×1620 pixel screen with a 3:2 ratio. In addition to the physical keys being used as shortcuts apart from the typical typing, the keyboard is entirely capacitive and can be used for scrolling around the interface without actually touching the phone’s screen. Of course, for selections and most cases of usage, the phone’s screen is fully functional and usable as well.

The hybrid dual-SIM smartphone also comes with USB Type-C connectivity, and support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 to quickly charge the 3,505mAh battery. The smartphone also comes with BlackBerry’s suite of software and functionality, including apps such as Hub, DTEK and the Blackberry launcher, which are developed with business productivity and security in mind. The phone also has a fingerprint sensor, which is embedded into the spacebar on the keyboard of the device.
