Nokia 3310 3G variant to arrive in late September or early October

HMD Global brought a healthy dose of nostalgia with the announcement of the Nokia 3310 handset during MWC 2017. The feature phone lacked one key feature – 3G connectivity. Nokia is now expected to unveil a 3G variant of the iconic feature phone. Last month, a reported 3G variant of the device cleared FCC certification, giving rise rumors that the announcement of the device isn’t far off. A recent report now states that the Nokia 3310 3G will not arrive before late September or early October. However, there has been no official word from HMD Global with regards to the new 3G model.

The leak comes from an Irish telecom carrier, Three Ireland, that took to Twitter to share the news. The tweet simply says, “We will be ranging the 3G version of the Nokia 3310, the current launch date of late is September early October” that confirms the availability with the Irish carrier but also hints at the possible arrival date of the feature phone. Just like the Nokia 3310, the 3G variant is also expected to first be announced internationally and then in India at a later date. In terms of design and specifications, there are not too many changes expected in the device.

The FCC listing revealed that the Nokia 3310 3G will come with the model number TA-1036 and the dimensions mentioned match those of the existing model. The 3G feature phone will come with 116mm length and 51mm width. Apart from the dimensions and confirmation that the device will be a 3G device, the FCC listing does not give any clue to any other specifications of the phone.  In terms of design though, HMD Global is not expected to bring any drastic changes to retain the nostalgia element of the device. However, the Nokia 3310 3G variant is expected to be priced higher than the current one, which retails at Rs 3,310 in India.

Nokia has been announcing multiple special editions of the feature phone and recently unveiled a Nokia 3310 worth Rs 1.6 lakh. The device was launched to mark the meeting of US President Donald Trump with Russian President, Vladimir Putin. The Nokia 3310 Putin-Trump Summit Edition features a coin-like design on the back with the faces of both the Presidents. On the bottom is a golden plaque with the Summit details. The special edition is designed using Titanium and Black velvet, giving it a different look and finish. The area around the buttons is in Gold. The significance of the Presidents facing the same direction on the back is the united look for US and Russia.

HMD Global is expected to soon announce the flagship Nokia 8 and multiple leaks have already been doing rounds. Recent leaks hinted at a 13-megapixel front selfie camera as well as dual 13-megapixel sensors at the back of the smartphone. Nokia released a video to celebrate International Cat Day, which shows a previously unseen Nokia smartphone, believed to be the Nokia 8. The smartphone is expected to run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM. The internal storage is likely to be 64GB. The smartphone is expected to be unveiled in London on August 16.
