Samsung Galaxy C7 (2017) with Helio P20 SoC, 4GB RAM spotted on Geekbench

Samsung appears to be preparing the launch of a new smartphone from its C-series. Rumored to be called the Galaxy C7 (2017), the smartphone has now been spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench. Other than hinting at the performance of the Galaxy C7, the listing also throws light on some of its key specifications.

Listed as Samsung SM-C710F, the purported smartphone achieves a single-core score of 883, and a multi-core score of 3,959. Based on the Geekbench listing, the Galaxy C7 could use a MediaTek Helio P20 MT6757 octa-core SoC under-the-hood, paired with 4GB of RAM. In addition to that, the listing reveals that the smartphone could run the newer Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

The new Samsung Galaxy C7 will be the successor to the model released in 2016, and is expected to bring in a range of improvements. The smartphone has been previously spotted on certification websites TENAA, Bluetooth SIG, and Wi-Fi Alliance, all suggesting an imminent launch. Recently, the smartphone’s support page also went live on Samsung’s website. Interestingly, some of the past rumors indicated that the smartphone could feature a dual-camera setup, which could possibly make it the first Samsung smartphone to feature the new camera technology.

However, it is widely believed that the Galaxy Note 8 – successor to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 – will be the first smartphone from Samsung’s portfolio to stand up against the likes of Apple iPhone 7 Plus, OnePlus 5, and the Honor 8 Pro among other dual-camera smartphones. The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to make its debut on August 23 and hence, we can expect the Galaxy C7 launch to be pushed further.

What also stands in contrast to the latest Geekbench listing is the use of processor. If past reports are to be believed, the Galaxy C7 will be powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC or Snapdragon 660 SoC. However, the new listing indicates the use of a Helio chipset. Whether it will indeed be the first smartphone to boast a dual-camera setup or run Qualcomm chipset, is something we will have to wait for either the company to announce or the rumor mill to churn out.

Nonetheless, past rumors suggest that it could feature a 5.5-inch full HD display and will arrive in two variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and another with 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage. While there is lack of clarity on the dual-camera setup, it could be a combination of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. Up front, the smartphone could pack a 16-megapixel front camera. It is expected to be fueled by a 2,850mAh battery.
