Apple is said to be conducting a survey among current MacBook Pro users, asking a series of questions. The tech giant is particularly wondering if its customers use the headphone jack frequently or not. This survey hints that Apple may be considering removing the 3.5mm headphone jack from future MacBook Pros as well.
Apple asked a series of questions and one of them was, "Do you ever use the headphone port on your MacBook Pro with Retina display?" First spotted by Mac Rumors, this survey has inevitably sparked rumours of Apple getting rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack on its entire product lineup eventually.
It is however unlikely that the new MacBook Pro 2016 launching next month could be wireless as an alleged leaked chassisof the upcoming laptop showed USB-C ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. The questionnaire could very well be related to the future iterations of MacBooks.
Based on what we have come across so far, the upcoming MacBook Pro will boast a ‘thinner and lighter’ profile. They are expected to boast a new touch-based OLED display panel above the keyboard, which could replace the OS X dock, allow users to add custom shortcut keys, and could even display notifications. The new MacBook Pro could also boast a Touch ID fingerprint scanner onboard.
It is not surprising that Apple is mulling the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack on its other products. With iPhones leading the way, it is only a matter of time before other Apple products join the wireless revolution. Though Apple’s decision to go wireless is seeing its fair share of detractors, especially the AirPods, the company seems pretty unfazed. In fact in an interview CEO Tim Cook refuted suggestions that one could easily lose the AirPods, saying he has even danced while wearing them. “I’ve been wearing them for a while and because they don’t have wires on them the wires tend to help the earbud to fall out because it applies weight on those. I have never personally had one fall out,” Cook said.
