Samsung today announced it will start selling the Galaxy A9 Pro in India from September 26 in Black, Gold, and White colour variants. The highlight of the smartphone is its large 6-inch display and its 5000mAh battery.
Surprisingly, Samsung hasn’t launched the phablet globally, with a quiet launch in China earlier this year. Looks like it would be available in select markets where users are looking for bigger displays.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro boasts a design that uses both glass and metal, and narrow 2.7mm bezels. In the Rs 30,000 segment, the Galaxy A9 Pro is among the rare devices with a large 6-inch display. But with a Snapdragon 652 chipset, and full HD display, we do feel that the phablet should have been priced a bit lower. Xiaomi’s Mi Max Prime too comes with a massive 6.44-inch display, Snapdragon 652 chipset, and a 4,850mAh battery, but it is priced at only Rs 19,999.
Commenting on the launch, Manu Sharma, Vice President, Mobiles Business, Samsung India Electronics said, "The millennial generation is increasingly consuming content on their smartphones & the 6-inc Super Amoled display on Galaxy A9 Pro enhances that experience. With capabilities like multitasking with higher memory and advanced processor, one of the largest batteries in the industry for long lasting use and an enhanced camera with Optical Image Stabilizer along-with low light photography capability, the Galaxy A9 Pro provides a Flagship experience. We are excited to expand our Galaxy A series with the new Galaxy A9 Pro which offers a differentiated experience to our consumers for their active lifestyle."
Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro specifications and features
The Galaxy A9 Pro flaunts a 6-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 4, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. There is 32GB onboard storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. Unlike most new smartphones these days, Samsung has stuck with a separate slot and no hybrid setup.
On the photography front, the Galaxy A9 Pro is equipped with a 16-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, LED flash and optical image stabilization (OIS) support. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture and wide-angle lens.
One of the talking points of the phablet is the massive 5,000mAh battery, which Samsung says is good enough for up to 32 hours of talktime and over 20 days on standby mode. The battery also comes with support for Fast Charging, wherein it can be charged to 32 percent in 30 minutes. The Galaxy A9 Pro also features a fingerprint scanner, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.2. On the software front, the phablet runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-of-the-box, and is also pre-loaded with Samsung’s KNOX security suite.
