Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) images leak: thinner than Note 7, glass and metal

Samsung is reportedly working on the successor of the Galaxy A8 smartphone that it launched in August last year. Called Galaxy A8 (2016), the smartphone was recently spotted in the benchmark listing, which also revealed some of its key specifications and features. Now, alleged renders of the Galaxy A8 (2016) have surfaced, courtesy of reliable leaker @onleaks. The renders show off the yet to be announced smartphone from different angles with Galaxy S7-like design. The leakster has also mentioned expected dimensions of 156.5×77.5×7.3mm, which is larger than 142.4x 69.6×7.9mm as that of the Galaxy S7.

To begin with, the Galaxy A8 (2016) looks like a major departure from last year’s Galaxy A8. While last year’s smartphone featured an all metal unibody design, the latest leaked renders show off a front and back glass design. The front panel has the earpiece and selfie camera with other sensors; the 2.5D curved display and home button flanked by back and app switcher capacitive buttons. The physical home button is also expected to come embedded with a fingerprint scanner. The side panel looks smooth with slight curves and chamfered edges.

The volume buttons and SIM card tray is placed on the left panel, the power / sleep button on the right edge and the microUSB and 3.5mm audio port at the bottom. One change also comes with the placement of the speaker, which is now seen on the right edge, just above the power button. Turn to the back, and you have the slightly glass panel tapering towards the edges. The protruding camera module with LED flash is also visible at the back.

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2016) specifications and features

The smartphone carrying model number SM-A810F was recently spotted on Geekbench listing revealing Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz processor and paired with 3GB of RAM and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. While the processor may seem old, it has been a flagship one of its time and have powered Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5.

The Galaxy A8 (2016) was also recently spotted on GFXBench sporting a 5.1-inch full HD (1080p) display. However, there seems to be some error as last year’s Galaxy A8 sported a slightly larger 5.7-inch full HD panel. With 32GB internal storage, a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter is also expected.
