Google's 2016 Santa Tracker signals the official countdown to Christmas

The countdown has begun and its 19 days until Santa departs from the North pole. And Google is back with its annual Santa tracker. Just like last year, you can send your friends a call from Santa, track Santa’s gift distributing journey on a map, or play Reindeer racing games on the Santa Village home page. But that’s not all, this year, Google has added much more than just tracking Santa’s journey.

This is the 12th year Google has started counting down until Santa’s December 24 departure from the North Pole. And celebrating the same, Google’s blog read, “From sliding penguins to dancing elves, the residents of the North Pole are having the time of their lives, and now you can join in the merriment.”

Just like last year, features like send a call to friends from Santa, follow Santa’s journey on map and playing Reindeer racing games, are still available on the new version. But this year, Google has implemented many new games, which can be accessed on the Santa Villages homepage. Out of which four of them are only available on the Android app. Google will also “unwrap three coding games to help kids of all ages learn the basics of coding Java scripts,” on the occasion of the Computer Science Education Week from December 5 to December 11.

Google also has something for teachers with an educator resource page featuring lesson plans and educational games. Google.org will also showcase educational non-profits that celebrate the season of giving all year long.

Google has promised more surprises as users track Santa’s journey ahead of Christmas. The Santa Tracker app is available on the web, Android, embedded in Google Maps, and is even accessible as a Chrome extension. However, for iOS users, the Santa Tracker is available via mobile browser only.
