Mukesh Ambani announces Reliance Jio Happy New Year Offer, here’s everything you need to know

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani took the stage to make some key announcements related to Reliance Jio. Ever since the company started its commercial operations from September 5, its users have been facing call failure issues when calling to other networks. Today, Mukesh Ambani revealed as many as 900 crore voice calls from Reliance Jio to three of the largest telecom operators in India were blocked in the last three months.

Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are India’s three largest telecom operators. Recent data released on November 7 by Reliance Jio revealed that around 4.74 crore calls failed to Airtel network, more than 2.35 crore calls failed to Vodafone and more than 1.41 crore calls failed to Idea network. The purpose of ‘Welcome Offer’ was to get customer feedback and iron out deficiencies in the network. Ambani also mentioned that the company is working with incumbent telecom operators to improve points of interconnectivity, and aims to resolve the issues soon. Ambani said that the call block rate had gone down from 90 percent to 20 percent and is confident that it would go down even further in the coming weeks as rival carriers activate more points of interconnection.

Ambani also touched down on other points where he mentioned that average Jio user has been using 25 times more data compared to average Indian broadband user. This has also made Reliance Jio the largest broadband provider in India in less than three months.

Reliance Jio‘s Happy New Year Offer is valid till March 31, 2016 and it is applicable for both new and existing subscribers. Starting December 4, new subscribers will be added to the new offer, while existing subscribers will continue to be on the Welcome Offer till December 31, 2016, and from January 1, they will be automatically transferred to the Happy New Year Offer.

Jio’s Happy New Year Offer is in essence a rebranded Welcome Offer, which was announced back in September 1. While subscribers will be able to enjoy all of the same services, the one big difference is the reduced FUP limit. As a part of this offer, Jio users get access to unlimited free voice and video calls across India, and unlimited high-speed 4G data (daily limit 1GB). If a user crosses the 1GB per day limit, their data speeds will be reduced to 128Kbps for the rest of the day, and normal speeds will resume after 12:00AM.

Subsrcibers also get access to unlimited free local and national SMS messages, and Jio’s full suite of apps which includes the likes of JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioXpressNews, JioSecurity, JioDrive, JioMags and JioMoney among others. Apps like JioPlay lets you watch live TV on the go, JioOnDemand lets you watch the movies from the company’s library, JioBeats is the company’s music streaming service, and JioMoney is a digital wallet that lets you transfer money to other people, as well as pay utility and various other kinds of bills.
