Reliance Jio: Mukesh Ambani has something major to announcement today at 1:30PM

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani will take the stage today to make an announcement, exactly three months after the launch of Reliance Jio on September 1. Ambani’s speech is set to kick off at 1:30PM IST, and here’s how you can watch the live stream from the comfort of your home or office.

Ambani’s announcement will be live streamed on RIL’s YouTube channels — Flame Of Truth and Jio Digital Life. Alternatively, the speech will also be live streamed on the RIL and Jio Facebook pages. The Flame of Truth and Reliance Jio Twitter handles too will have live updates from the speech.

Though RIL is keeping the agenda of the speech under the wraps, there are quite a few speculations about what Ambani could announce. Since the launch on September 1, it’s been a roller coaster ride for Reliance Jio. After the initial high, Jio’s services have been marred with issues like drop in speeds and call failures. We expect Ambani to address these issues during his speech today.

Despite all these issues, Jio’s Welcome Offer has helped the company garner around 50 million subscribers in less than three months. The Welcome Offer essentially gives users access to unlimited voice calls across India, unlimited high-speed 4G data (daily cap of 4GB), and unlimited local and national SMS. Users also get free access to Jio’s suite of apps that let users stream music, movies, watch Live TV, and more. As per the original announcement, the free Welcome Offer is coming to an end on December 31, post which users will have to pay for data with plans starting from as low as Rs 19 with one day validity.

Reports however claim that Jio could extend the validity of the Welcome Offer till March 2017. But with TRAI’s guidelines not allowing promotional offers to extend beyond 90 days, it will be interesting to see how the company manages to circumvent these rules. Other speculations include the announcement of Jio’s Gigabit FTTH internet service as well.
