LG G6 Pro and G6 Plus smartphones with LG Pay to launch on June 27: Report

LG recently announced the LG G6 flagship device for 2017. Coming soon on the heels of LG G6 are two more phones under the same series – LG G6 Plus and LG G6 pro. While it is now a trend to launch newer devices in the same series once the flagship is launched, the latest phones from LG are more of a plug to promote the newly announced LG Pay service.

There are not a lot of details known about the upcoming phones but the devices will both come with specifications similar to LG G6. The LG G6 Plus is most likely to be a larger variant of the LG G6 though there is no clarity on the exact function of the Pro. Both the smartphones are expected to go up for sale on June 27 along with the G6. The phones will be available initially in South Korea and though they might expand to a few other Asian markets, it is unknown if the phones will ever see an Indian launch.

Taking a look at the few specifications that are known, LG G6 Plus will sport not just a larger display but also come with a ramped up storage. The phone will feature 128GB internal storage whereas G6 Pro will come with 32GB internal storage. The lesser storage might also hint at the G6 Pro being a relatively cheaper and a more budget variant of the original flagship. Additionally, the LG G6 Plus will also support wireless charging, a feature that is present in only the US Edition LG G6.

There are no details or leaks surrounding other specifications of both the smartphones. LG G6 Plus and LG G6 Pro will most lilely see an official announcement a week before launch in South Korea as the phones will retail alongside LG G6 in the country. While LG G6 Plus is expected to be priced at $890 (approx. Rs 57,200), LG G6 Pro will come at $712 (approx. Rs 45,800). The pricing too hints at the G6 Plus being more advanced than the G6 Pro as the former is priced higher than LG G6, retailing for $801 (approx. Rs 51,500) in South Korea.

Reports in the South Korean media also suggest that the phones will come in a new Astro Black color variant. Coming to LG Pay, the service competes with Samsung Pay and lets users make payments directly via their smartphones, eliminating the need to carry cards around. The service is presently restricted only to South Korea and LG is still tying up with partners to promote the new cashless, cardless payment mechanism. LG Pay is based on fingerprint authentication which means a user has to scan the fingerprint each time to make a transaction, as a mode of security.
