Moto Z2 Play launched in India at Rs 27,999: Specifications, Features, launch day offers and more


A week after its international debut, the Moto Z2 Play launched in India today at Rs 27,999. You can pre-book the smartphone through the company’s official website or Flipkart, and avail some of the interesting offers available. It is to be noted that the Moto Z2 Play is available through multiple channels and will be sold even at offline stores. It will start shipping from June 15.

Motorola is also providing some offers to people interested in buying the new smartphone. If you pre-order the Moto Z2 Play, there are three pre-booking offers — hello finance, hello mods, and hello armor. These offers start from today and will be valid till June 15. Under the Hello finance offer, once you pay Rs 2,000 for the pre-order, you can pay the remaining amount in 10 monthly easy EMIs without any interest. This offer is valid through either Bajaj or Homecredit finance services. Alternatively, you can also swipe your card and convert the payment into 3/6/9/12 months EMI without any interest at select stores. To check stores which offer the scheme, you can use Moto’s retail store locator.

On the other hand, the Hello mods deal is applicable on select Moto Mods. These include the JBL SoundBoost 2, Moto TurboPower Pack, Moto Style Shells with Wireless Charging, and the Moto GamePad. Although it is not clear which mods will be made available in India, we can expect the existing mods, which include the insta-share projector and Hasselblad true zoom mod, to be available at a discounted price. And as for the Hello armor, under the offer, Motorola is offering protective accessories for the Moto Z2 Play.

In what will probably draw more attention is that the smartphone is available with a Reliance Jio offer where users can avail an additional 100GB 4G data on the purchase of the Moto Z2 Play. The offer is valid on recharge of Rs 309 or above till 31st March 2018 and limited to 10 recharges till 31st March 2018.

Moto Z2 Play specifications, features

The second-generation Moto Z2 Play is thinner and lighter than the Moto Z Play. It measures 6mm at its thickness and weighs 145 grams. It is equipped with a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 SoC. In India, the Moto Z2 Play is available with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is also an option to further expand the storage via microSD card.

For photography, the Moto Z2 Play packs a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, laser auto-focus, and dual-LED (dual tone) flash. Up front, it includes a 5-megapixel f/2.0 camera with dual-LED flash for brighter selfies. It is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery with TurboPower which the company claims is good enough to last up to 7 hours of power. For connectivity, the smartphone features fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM support, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi and USB Type-C port. It runs smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

Similar to the Moto Z Play, the successor is also compatible with a range of Moto Mods. However, these Mods are available as an optional purchase and thus cost an additional amount. The compatible mods for the Moto Z2 Play include the Hasselblad True Zoom mod, JBL SoundBoost mod, Insta-Share Projector mod, and the Incipio offgrid Power pack Mod. These mods start at Rs 899 and go up to Rs 15,999. You can avail the pre-booking offers to buy these mods at a discount. The company also introduced two new Mods at the event. These include the JBL SoundBoost 2 and the Moto Gamepad. Pricing and availability details of the new mods is yet to be officially announced.
