OnePlus 5 will be the thinnest flagship smartphone, four color options, June 15 launch date leaked again

The OnePlus 5 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the year. We have already come across numerous leaks, which have given us a fair idea of what to expect from the upcoming device. Recently, a Weibo post tipped that the smartphone will launch on June 15. Now, in the latest development, yet another teaser has been sighted on Weibo re-acknowledging the fact that the OnePlus 5 will launch on June 15. The company has not yet officially announced the dates as yet, however, the leak comes from renowned leakster Kjuma from China.

Not giving out any specifics on what the unveil might entail, the poster comes with a OnePlus logo on the top left-hand side with the dates 2017.6.15 mentioned at the center. The poster does not mention OnePlus 5 anywhere but clearly, we are very near to OnePlus announcing its next flagship now. According to reports, an internal email from the company also hinted at June 15 as the launch date.

The company itself has been keeping things interesting, teasing one little bit about the device after the other. After teasing the chipset and the camera on the OnePlus 5, last night OnePlus hinted at four possible color options for the smartphone.

In a tweet sent out from its official OnePlus India handle, the company teased four boxes of OnePlus 5, all of which carried different colors. While three of them are white color boxes, the number 5 on all three have different font colors. Our guess based on the teased images is that the OnePlus 5 may come in white, grey, and a white dual-tone variant with a string of red along its edges. The latter variant is our guess for the fourth box, which is white in color, with ’5′ written in red.

However, out of the lot, the most interesting teased color option is the red box. We are guessing that this would be something like the iPhone 7 Product RED edition. In the teased image, the second box is a scarlet red one, with the number ’5′ camouflaged within the red pattern of the box. If these color options do turn out to be true, the red would definitely be the highlight.

Pete Lau made this announcement on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo (spotted by PhoneArena), which is a similar one made about the fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 5. On his post, Pete Lau says that he believes the OnePlus 5 to be the thinnest flagship smartphone and also its trimmed size will not compromise on the user experience overall. Trying to decipher Pete Lau’s statement, he could possibly be pitting the OnePlus 5 against the current flagship smartphones in the market in terms of its thickness. To put things in perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is 8mm thick, the LG G6 is 7.9mm thick and the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 6 is 7.5mm thick.

OnePlus 5 specifications, features

From what we know so far, the OnePlus 5 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch 2K resolution display. At the heart, the smartphone will most likely run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC clocked at 2.35GHz and paired with Adreno 540 GPU. The smartphone might launch with two variants- 6GB RAM plus 64GB storage and 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage.

The camera department is one aspect that is very sketchy. Leaks from the past suggest that the OnePlus 5 will come with a dual-camera setup, however, there are no sensor details available yet. Some rumors hint at a 23-megapixel or 16-megapixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies, but there are no details about the secondary sensor as yet. The battery bit is also not very clear as leaks suggest the smartphone might be fuelled with either a 3,600mAh battery or a 4,000mAh battery. It is also said to support company’s Dash Charge technology. On the software front, the OnePlus 5 is expected to run on Android 7.1.1Nougat out-of-the-box.

Earlier this week, OnePlus posted other OnePlus 5 teasers, including a photography contest that will reward 10 lucky winners with early access to the next-gen OnePlus handset.
