There’s surely quite a bit of buzz around Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. We have come across multiple leaks hinting at what Google’s next flagship smartphones could bring to the table. Now, we are being treated to two new leaks – one regarding the possible processor, and one about the display.
A report out of South Korea suggests that Google has offered to invest 1 trillion won in LG Display. This investment will help LG Display set up an additional production line dedicated to producing flexible OLED displays for Google’s upcoming smartphones. While there’s no word on the exact specifications of these displays, Google isn’t the only company opting for flexible OLED displays. Recently, Apple too is said to have approached Samsung Electronics for the delivery of 70 million units of OLED panels.
Apart from the display, Slashgear suggests that the upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will both be powered by a Snapdragon 835 Pro SoC. As the name suggests, this will be an improved version of the chipset currently powering the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. The new processor won’t just offer better performance and efficiency, but it will also include an X16 LTE modem offering download speeds of up to 1Gbps.
Another feature of the upcoming Google smartphone will be 4K UHD Premium Foveated Rendering, 10-bit 4K @60fps display capabilities, and more importantly, Q-SYNC. These capabilities would help the upcoming Pixel smartphones to run high-end mobile VR apps, something that Google has been pushing for quite sometime now.

Google has already confirmed that it will be launching the second-generation Pixel smartphones this year. The search giant also accidentally confirmed the ‘Muskie’ codename for the Pixel 2 just last week. Based on the rumors, the Pixel 2 XL is codenamed ‘Walleye’, and there’s a third variant also in the works, reportedly codenamed ‘Taimen’.
Not much is known about any of the upcoming Pixel smartphones. But based on the rumors, Google is expected to improve the cameras by focusing more on low-light shooting capabilities. There are also rumors about the company going the Apple way, and ditching the 3.5mm audio jack on its upcoming smartphones. These smartphones will also have full waterproofing capabilities.
