After much rumors, Xiaomi Mi 6 is officially confirmed to be launching this month. The confirmation comes from none other than Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun himself. Jun was in a live streaming session with Xiaomi fans, when he spilled the beans on Mi 6 release. Though Jun didn’t mention any specific dates, if Chinese media reports are to be believed, then Xiaomi Mi 6 could be announced anywhere between April 11 and April 18.
Prior to this, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has been subject to various leaks, leaving little to imagination. We have come across leaked renders that show what the device could look like, while entire spec sheets have surfaced online as well. One aspect that has hogged the spotlight is the smartphone’s photographic chops. While some rumors claim that the Mi 6 will come with a dual-camera setup at the back, recently an alleged retail box image leaked revealing a 30-megapixel camera sensor at the back.
Xiaomi Mi 6 features, specifications
The Xiaomi Mi 6 could sport a 5.5-inch or a 5.2-inch display size, as hinted by leaked renders. The LCD display on the handset is said to be topped by 2.5D curved glass for protection and the premium look.
The flagship smartphone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, and run on Android Nougat 7.0 based MIUI 9. Interestingly, leaks suggest that the Mi 6 could be launched in multiple variants powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 SoC and MediaTek’s Helio X30 chipset.
Xiaomi Mi 6 might sport a whopping 8GB RAM, coupled with 64GB internal storage on the base variant. Xiaomi Mi 6 is said to feature fingerprint sensor embedded into the display, while rumors have it that the device could also sport an iris scanner. We recommend users to take this piece of information with pinch of salt and as we are close to official launch, several other details would be known of the Xiaomi Mi 6.
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 4A in India in the entry level segment. The smartphone, priced at Rs 5,999, is a 4G LTE device and runs on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
