Samsung Galaxy S8+ with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage launched in South Korea

Samsung unveiled its highly anticipated flagships, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ last month. Contrary to some reports, the Galaxy S8+, the bigger of the two variants, was launched with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage similar to the Galaxy S8. A new variant of the Galaxy S8+ with 6GB of RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage has now been spotted on Samsung’s South Korea website. The official website listing also suggests that Samsung could be offering the DeX dock with the new Galaxy S8+ variant.

Spotted by AndroidHeadlines, the listing shows that the Galaxy S8+ with 6GB of RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage will be available through Samsung South Korea and through South Korean cellular carriers as well. However, the availability date isn’t mentioned as yet. And there’s no word whether Samsung would release this variant globally. The official website listing shows the Galaxy S8+ in Midnight Black and the only difference comes in terms of memory. The storage on the smartphone can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S8+ features a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution and 531 ppi along with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. As customary, the Galaxy S8+ is available with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor and in-house Exynos processor, and the availability would depend on the different markets launched. In the photography department, the Samsung Galaxy S8+ sports a 12-megapixel dual-pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture. Up front, the smartphone houses an 8-megapixel smart auto-focus selfie camera.

On the software front, the Galaxy S8+ runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with TouchWiz UI on top. For power, the Galaxy S8+ uses a 3,500mAh battery. Additional features include Always On display, Samsung’s AI assistant Bixby and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

The connectivity options available on the Galaxy S8+ include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C port and Wi-Fi. The smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor which is located on the rear end just beside the camera lens. Samsung made a major design change by removing the physical Home button and shifting the fingerprint sensor thereby joining the league of large displays and allowing users to utilize it to its maximum potential.

Bixby, which is one of the biggest features on the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, comes at par with Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant. A dedicated button on the right side of the smartphone can be pressed to launch Bixby or one can simply say ‘Bixby’. Bixby can launch apps, and perform tasks within an app as well. Bixby is programmed to interpret one’s natural language instead of making users memorize a set of phrases.
