Moto Z successor will reportedly be called Moto Z2, Moto Z2 logo leaks

The Moto Z (2017) is no stranger to the rumor mills, and we have already come across alleged leaked images of the yet-to-be-launched smartphone. However, the latest rumors suggests that Moto Z (2017) will be called Moto Z2. Well, it’s not really surprising given Motorola’s history of using one letter and one number; for instance, the Moto G5, the Moto G4, or for that matter the E3. As of now the Moto Z line includes the Moto Z, Moto Z Force and the Moto Z Play.

Coming from famous leakster Evan Blass, this time the leak suggests just the name of Motorola’s upcoming smartphone. Blass tweeted a logo for the Moto Z2, which, just like its predecessor is said to support the Moto Mods. No other details of the phone have been leaked. But talking of specifications, we have come across many leaks of the smartphone under the name Moto Z (2017) in the past. From what we know so far, the smartphone might come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset under the hood, coupled with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone would run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. Apart from that, there were rumors that Moto will include a iris scanner for biometric authentication.

The Moto Z2 was set to make its debut alongside the Moto G5 and G5 Plus which clearly did not happen. While the company has kept mum about the launch date and availability of the Moto Z2 smartphone, we can expect the smartphone to launch sometime in Q2, 2017 considering the Moto Z  was also launched in June 2016.

In comparison, last year’s Moto Z featured a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and was powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The Moto Z came with 64GB onboard storage, which is further expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card. In the camera department, the Moto Z came with a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, optical image stabilization (OIS), 4K video recording at 30fps and full HD video recording at 60fps. Up front, there was a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies. The smartphone uses a 2,600mAh battery along with Turbo Charging support and offers connectivity options such as 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 and USB Type-C support.
